Report: Chris Evans offered Captain America role

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Chris Evans has been offered the role

Chris Evans Human Torch

of Captain America in the upcoming film The First Avenger: Captain America.   Evans recently starred in “Push” and has previous superhero experience as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the two “Fantastic Four” movies from Fox. Neither Evans’ representatives nor Marvel confirmed the offer.

THR says Evans’ offer would include starring in up to three “Captain America” films, in addition to the planned “Avengers” movies featuring Captain America, Iron Man and Thor.  He could also appear in other Marvel movies.

Joe Johnston (“The Rocketeer”) is scheduled to direct “Captain America,” which will be set during World War II and is planned to film this summer in England.

Evans will appear in two already filmed comic-book movies set for release this year: “The Losers,” based on the DC Comics graphic novels, and “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” based on the Oni Press graphic novel series.

Do you think Evans should accept the role as Captain America? Sound off in the comments!

I like the move if it happens.

While Robery Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for Iron Man, I still cant see who would be perfect for Captain America and be able to take the role for himself without hamming it up.

I think Captain America is a harder casting call – if Evans hadn’t already been the Human Torch I think I’d be behind it. As it is, it still feels a little weird. I was rooting for Mike Vogel, and still kind of am until this is official, but Evans does potentially have a good look. Thanks for the comments!

[...] Captain America will also almost certainly appear in the upcoming “Avengers” film.  News of Evans being offered the role first broke late Friday. [...]
