Peter Parker deserved to be fired

In the current storyline in “Amazing Spider-Man,” Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, loses his job as a photographer.
And, he deserves it. SPOILERS AHEAD.
As a photographer on the mayor’s payroll, Peter Parker fakes a photograph that shows now-mayor J. Jonah Jameson battling the villainous Vulture. Jameson had been accused of taking part in this Vulture’s creation.
Without Jameson’s knowledge or approval, Peter Parker presented the faked photo as evidence of what actually happened. Even though Peter saw the events as he transcribed them into the photo, that’s still a severe journalistic ethical violation. A newspaper photographer — which Peter used to be — would be immediately fired for creating such a photo. And besides that, there were other ways to have cleared Jameson besides faking a photo. For example, searching for other witnesses or checking security camera footage.
Jameson is in the right to fire Peter Parker from his staff. While I realize Marvel wants us to root for Spider-Man, it’s harder to do so when he betrays the public trust in such a way. While his intentions were good, you can’t present altered truth and expect to be trusted.
