Marvel movie updates: Captain America, Iron Man 2

Firstshowing.net has an extensive interview with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, discussing Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor and The Avengers.

Among the highlights:

Bucky Barnes will most likely appear in the “Captain America” movie. Bucky was Captain America’s sidekick, who became the Winter Soldier, and now has replaced the original Captain America.

scarlet-johanssonScarlett Johansson (pictured to the right) will play a “two-sided” Black Widow.

Johansson, Samuel Jackson, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are signed on for multiple movies OR multiple franchises — meaning, perhaps, that Loki could be the first villain faced by The Avengers.

Feige described “Captain America” as  “the movie (Joe Johnston’s) entire career has been leading towards.”   Johnston, pictured below, directed “The Rocketeer” and “Jurassic Park III.”

Another “Ant-Man” draft is in the works from Edgar Wright.

Another Marvel movie will be announced for 2012 in the coming months.

All of this makes it sound like Marvel has its head on straight when it comes to producing these blockbuster adaptations of their comic books.  And it sounds like contracts are being structured to allow actors to portray their characters in multiple Marvel films across different franchises.

I’m very much looking forward to a “Captain America” done right, and given how much I liked “The Rocketeer,”  I’m optimistic — and hope audiences go along with it.

I definitely hope they have their stuff together when it comes to the Captain America movie. If it is done wrong, it will disappoint me to no end!

Does it bode well for Ant-man that they mention that they are working on another draft? I have no expectations for that one.

i have been reading marvel comics since 1967 and thor is the most colorful exciting charasmatic & appealing superhero and the most interesting of anyone in the marvel universe.a thor movie should have been made way before x-men or hulk, and how can you disrepect & humiliate thr core characters ironman thor captain america by making a dumb stupid boring daredevil movie? explain to me how x-men ghostrider hulk spiderman and punisher movies are more popular or get more respect than thor captain america ironman silver surfer or avengers ?????

I’m just glad Marvel has been making these movies well lately. It sounds like an epic undertaking to try to make each superhero movie individually, hopefully to set them all up for an Avengers movie in the future. So far, so good. I’m definitely looking forward to May 2011 for Thor.

Oh, and thank goodness they re-made the Hulk so that it was actually a good movie, unlike that trash that played on the big screen in 2003!
