Same as Horace and Richard and Juliet... And barring that, we know there are other ways to get off the island: Ben teleported through time/space to the desert, and we know they sent Polar Bears through as well. You have to know how to find the island, a certain set of coordinates. It's what Ben gave to Michael waaaay back... I would imagine Charles, as leader, used the sub but never took time to figure out how to get back. Jacob is someone we haven't seen yet, I bet. Maybe it's Faraday, having kept time-traveling? I think Christian Shepherd is alive and well, just like Locke is. Both crashed dead; awoke alive. Remember, Jack saw Christian a lot after the crash, and NEVER found the body.
