“Action Comics” 1 sells for $317,200

The Associated Press has reported an “Action Comics” #1 sold for $317,200 in an internet auction at the site ComicConnect.com.
While the AP reports it’s one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book, my take is the price is probably a steal — if you’ve got the money to buy it.  It’s been graded by CGC as a 6.0, so it’s a solid “fine” copy — and it’s not like these things ever come up for sale.  There are fewer than a hundred thought to still be in existence.  It’s possible the current economy, and even some of the financial problems some high-end collectors are facing right now, kept the price from going higher.
The book was purchased by John Dolmayan, the drummer for the rock band System of a Down, who’s also a comic-book dealer.
