Godfather II game release date announced

THE NEXT LEVEL

The Godfather is coming back, courtesy of Electronic Arts and Paramount Digital Entertainment.

“The Godfather II” videogame will now be available in stores on April 7 in North America and April 10 in Europe.

“‘The Godfather II’ is taking the open-world genre in an entirely new direction by combining the furious combat of acting like a mobster, with the strategic gameplay of thinking like a Don,” said Hunter Smith, Executive Producer for “The Godfather II,” in a release. “The Corleones and all the other families schemed and fought to gain access and control of different territories, so that they could control the flow of money in those areas. This underlying battle cloaked secrecy is what ‘The Godfather II’ and mafia life is all about, and we wanted players to be in control as a Don and make those strategic decisions to lead their families to success.”

The game’s story will interconnect with key events from the film, including the meeting of the Dons in Cuba, blackmailing Senator Geary, and the Senate investigation of organized crime.

The game will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and personal computer. Pre-ordering “The Godfather II” at participating retailers will allow gamers to receive an exclusive crew member, Tommy Cipolla. The game is rated M for mature.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan talks “Watchmen” sets

Working on a lot of “Watchmen” content for the coming weeks.  Here’s a short tease for Nerdage readers.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays The Comedian, talked about the importance and quality of the practical sets on “Watchmen.”  He was asked if he was worried the film would heavily use green screen technology.
“The only green screen really was used for Mars and Antarctica, and that was just budgetary reasons, or we would have gone there,” Morgan answered, laughing.
“The sets that they built, they were amazing. For me, it all really sunk in what the hell we were doing during the shooting of the Keene riots, and seeing this New York set with Archie (the Owl Ship) floating above, and 500 extras, and fires burning out of control. You just got the impression that things were really out of control!  Are we shooting here, or is this just going to burn down? It was pretty phenomenal.
“Everybody from the top down was so invested in this film, and the sets they built absolutely helped take you into this alternate reality.”

Kindle a threat to comics?

Sort of a misleadingly titled video  from Ad Age asks whether Kindle and iPod devices are a threat to traditional comics publishing.  Short answer: Sort of, yes, if the companies can’t find a way to encourage readers to pay for digital content. Not touched on in this video is where the direct market of comic-book specialty shops go under this scenario, or, if they go away entirely.  I tend to think the world is a cooler place with comic shops than without, and I hope enough people feel the same way to keep that marketplace viable well into the future.
