Maverick's superior tells him this pretty early on in the movie. It was the same guy who played the principal in the Back to the Future movies, but I'm not going to come up with his name in Top Gun. Leave it to someone else to fill in my blank on this one.....so many names in my head (Viper, Goose, Slider, Iceman, Jester, Merlin, Hollywood) ...none right.
