Johns talks JSA departure

At Newsarama, writer Geoff Johns discusses his upcoming departure from “Justice Society of America.”  He’ll finish his run on the title with “Justice Society of America” No. 26.

“I’m not sure how many issues, I think it’s more than 100, which is kind of insane,” Johns told Newsarama. ”This wasn’t an easy decision – Dan DiDio can tell you that – I spent a long time weighing it all. But with the projects I had on the horizon, the potential for some new things to develop, I knew it was the right time.”

Johns will be working on “Superman: Secret Origin,” “Blackest Night,” “Flash: Rebirth” and the ongoing “Green Lantern” series.   I’m sorry to see Johns leave JSA, which has flourished under his direction.  I think 100-plus issues on one title (with a relaunch in between, but essentially the same core title) is an amazing achievement which we see too little of in modern comics.

I came onto Justice Society with the relaunch under Geoff, and it’s one of my favorite books now.

I’ll be sad to see him depart, and I hope the book continues as strong as it’s been. It’s been, in my pinion, better than Justice League since it started.

And the Kingdom Come stuff has been the work of a career. Just splendid, marvelous, daring, entertaining stuff.

This is really sad news. JSA has been one of the most consistently awesome and entertaining comics for the last ten years. I just hope that whoever takes over the book treats all of the characters with the same TLC that Johns has done for the last decade.

Geoff leaving any book is sad news, but I look at it as he was on for a 100 issue run. How many titles can say that recently?

I have to concur with everything that has been said. His run was terrific and I will look back it as fondly as I do with James Robinson’s
“Starman” series.

Ultimate Spider-Man said that recently.
