According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Vertigo series Fables will be adapted into a pilot for the ABC network.

The comic-book series, created by Bill Willingham, features fairy-tale characters in the real world.  It’s one of the best-selling series from DC Comics’ Vertigo line and has won multiple awards.

“Six Degrees” creators and executive producers Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner are writing the screenplay.

I am intrigued by this news, but it could easily go so, so, so wrong.

I think this is really cool news. Unfortunately, it could be the best show ever, but if it does not garner ratings like a “Lost” or a “Grey’s Anatomy”, it could be one season and done, if that.

i picked up Vol 11 of Fables and the Covers this weekend. I think, if done right, with a good writing team, this could be a great series. I think if it’s dark and funny and smart, it could be Grade A.

But who knows. I watched 6 Degrees. I was one of 3 people. It didn’t last.

I starting buying the Fables comic with the first issue, thanks to Matt’s Word Balloon review. I’ve enjoyed it ever since, and I’ve been wondering if anyone would ever get around to making a live-action version. I would certainly watch and tape every episode that aired, in case of an early cancellation, like many of my favorite short-lived TV shows.
