Seriously? Wow. The Batman comics need some new writers. It actually makes me sick when I hear about what they are doing with the story right now. I just found out. He has a son? Dick is Batman? Bruce goes insane and runs off and then DIES? Really?!?! They should just come out with a one page comic that explains it as a crazy dream from Alfred or someone.

Anyone else other than Bruce Wayne being Batman is moronic. They pulled this same crap with the death of Superman to try to increase sales. They'll bring him back when they need to boost their sales yet again. At least they better. If they don't then it's a fact that they are going to lose a lot of readers. I've been a Batman reader since I was a kid but I read it just as much for Bruce Wayne as I do for Batman. With out Bruce as Batman I could care less and I'll stop reading. Of course there will still be graphic novels coming out with Bruce as Batman I'm sure. But as far as this section of Batman goes I won't be reading until they bring him back.

in my opinion i hope tim gets the cowel mostly because if you look at the character nightwing...he's really not all that smart is driven by emotions (which batman is strongly against) is a mediocre fighter and is always leaving himself vulnerable, Tim drake is far better in all those aspects and is so much younger and only will improve with age, as nigtwing has had time to improve but is still far to worried about what people think of him which over all will compromise his judgment for the greater good...besides you guys know he's not dead he brings in to much money for dc that would be a financially stupid move...and why would you even keep someone like batman dead he's far to important...lets kill spiderman we can all live without him that emo f---..spiderman is a great concept horrible character...done.

I'm frustrated that they killed off Bruce. There were a million other ways he could have been retired without killing him. I really hope Grayson gets to be Batman, or this whole transition will be a waste of time. Grant's a good writer, but I think Didio is handling editing decisions a bit hap hazardly. I know Bruce will return, like clark, Hal and Ollie-cause DC can't kill a hero for good. they lack the tenacity it takes to do such a thing. I love that the Joker can't die, but it's okay to waste the dark Knight. They're a bit odd over at DC.

I think you need to be familiar with Grant Morrison's work to have a feeling of where he's running with this. There's no trick, no pretence that Batman is really dead, first the whole didn't recover the body thing at the end or R.I.P. and then the Omega Sanction.

At the very least it's worth reading GM's Seven Soldiers of Victory to get a feel for the context of this. While I'm not all that excited by the battle for the cowl story arc I'm looking forward to seeing the Omega Sanction play out.

Brendan I think you are wright about the nightwing on going series and all but still its amusing in a way...Indeed Morrison screwed up a big deal by bringing bat mite and all into the story...Anyways I don't think it's a good idea to waste batman in any way...I mean there are some heroes that can't go away at all.LOok what happened with superman,Hal Jordan,Oliver Queen etc. Even when bane broke Batman's back...It just made the fans crazy and they brought them back to life...And because it hasn't worked in the past i don't think why it should work now.If somebody must be killed, it just can't be superman nor batman nor any of the golden age heroes.Especially batman and superman represent something more than a character in a comic book series. That's why the new director of dc comics made a Big mistake. And its not the only one...We suddenly find ourselves in the middle of 3 major crisis which are nothing more than commercial tricks that don't even work...Where are the meaningfull storylines? If they had focused more on that getting the wright people to do the job (there are indeed many good writers) they wouldn't need all these meaningless plot twists that affect the live's of heros and so on.I think they are very few comic book series that worth reading...
As far as I'm concerned one more hero is wasted and that is because some people think these drama-based crisis are gonna attract more people in reading comic books which is totally wrong cause no one is going to start reading a comic for which to understand he must read another 32676 "relevant" series.
Anyway to get bruce wayne out of the picture now with the new movie the dark knight and all is also a terrible commercial choice...

The resting of Bruce Wayne could be a good thing. The recent storylines have been fragmented and although had a lot of potential, they failed to deliver. For instance the introduction of Damian was brilliant as it offered up the chance to see how Batman would react between Tim and his own son, plus hundreds of other scenarios. Damian though was given very little time to shine and basically was dumped on the back burner. Even in Nightwing’s Freefall, Talia and Ra’s make appearances, but Damian is tucked away.
By resting Bruce we get the opportunity to strengthen Grayson’s character. Tim has done well as Robin and although a lot of his storylines are far fetched he has been built a personality. Grayson though has been the spare wheel for a decade now and no-one has given him direction. He has been given a b grade storyline with b grade villians and his only real test is which girl is he going to sleep with next? Recently the Freefall storyline gave him some credibility, and a little more work can make him one of the top characters in DC. So a good fight between Dick and Jason for the bat mantle could solidify both characters as mainstays. I would like to see Bruce rested for 2 years taking a role similar to Oracle. In this time he builds up jason, damian, tim and dick to carry the Batman family strongly into the next decade.
PS What writer puts Bat Mite into a supposedly big storyline? Bat Mite kills all reality in a Batman story. Morrison erred in a big way.

I think Grant's take on this story is pretty good. I have recently reread all of Grant's issues on Batman and it reads really good in one setting.

If you want a death that no longer has a meaning, how about Jean Grey. Doesn't she come back every other month in one of twenty X-books?

I think that like Brubaker on Captain America, Grant has a plan for Bruce Wayne.

I agree that this story could have been more clear! And what does "gone for a while" mean in fiction? If the characters think he's dead, and he doesn't appear for a while, is that empirically different?
From what I understand, this story will be followed up on in "Final Crisis," a miniseries coming out now from DC.

As usual, the comics have become worse than a bad soap opra as the line between the truth and what happens is a blur. It is all for a purpose but since the death of Superman from years ago [ I have several unopened copys ] it becomes a cliff hanger. It is all for money and I understand that but to [kill] one off multple times gets old. Get new writers or rethink your decesions on where a hero stands. Just my honest opinion on the way comics have turned in the recent years. After all I have read them since I was old enough to read and comprehend and I am 43 now.
