The “Smallville” season premiere is tonight — after you’ve watched it, check back in here to tell me what you think!

I am waiting for the Gigantic complete series set of Smallville to watch the series as a whole. I too, will watch a few episodes a year, and will watch the premier. Will let you know what I think.
I generally catch Smallville on DVD, or at least have the last few years. But, I figure I should at least catch the season premieres when I can. I think the problem with the show (which, ironically, was the same problem “Lois & Clark has) is the maddening inconsistency. Though Cody’s “meandering” comment is also fair — shouldn’t Clark be wearing glasses by now? They shoehorn in elements that shouldn’t come in til later (Perry White, Lois Lane — though I like Erica Durance) but then refuse to put in elements that should, arguably, have happened already, like the final Clark-Lana breakup and freaking wearing glasses. Oh and FLYING and A COSTUME. Just because “no flights, no tights” rhymed 8 years ago, you don’t have to stick with it forever…

That’s what I was saying. The show should have, when it first moved to Metropolis, STAYED in Metropolis.
I watched the first and, really, the second and third season of the show when they aired. Loved em. Then it became… the same thing every episode.
I have the 6 seasons on DVD, i get them when they’re $17 a season like they are several times a year. I enjoy the mythology and when they mythology comes into play… But grew frustrated that it became stagnant and they refused to accept that the show HAD to grow and become Superman/Metropolis.
When his dad died, that episode… First half, when Lana dies, was amazing. Just heartbreaking, great TV.
AND THEN HE GOES BACK IN TIME AND HIS DAD DIES?!!?! WTF.
It became trite.
I’ve enjoyed the Flash episodes, the Aquaman, etc, and Green Arrow was nice. I admit I only caught bits and pieces of last season, but when he was in glasses on the alternate reality? FANTASTIC.
I think there’s so much potential to be a great DC show, a great Superman show… and i think they felt they couldn’t go there.
But the time is now.
So… I sat down to watch this last night, with my roommate, who shall at this time remain nameless.
3 and a half minutes into the show, shortly past “Previously on Smallville”, he got a call from his girlfriend, and we had to pause it.
Needless to say, he didn’t return, so I was forced to wait. And wait. And gave up and started watching “Tremors” on Encore.
SO… I will watch it soon.
But the 3 and a half minutes I saw were.. well… icy.
In general, I liked it all right. I haven’t finished season 7 yet, so I wasn’t totally up on everything going on, but I thought it was a solid season premiere. More thoughts later.

I’m DVR’ing it, and due to living on the West Coast, I’ll be watching it 3 hours after you’ve seen it.
But I’ll let you know. I usually only watch one ep of Smallville a season: I’ll check in, watch it, and see that it is EXACTLY the same meandering show that it’s always been. However, I like the Justice League/Aquaman Episodes, so I’ll check it out. ALSO… Episode 11 of this season is the Geoff Johns Legion ep, which promises to be the best ep of the season.
We’ll see.
Black Canary looks like an angry ex-Suicide Girl.
