Game review: Spy Fox in Dry Cereal

Spy Fox in Dry Cereal

The PC game “Spy Fox” comes to the Nintendo Wii, allowing console gamers to experience the kid-focused James Bond parody. “Spy Fox in Dry Cereal” stars the titular Fox attempting to rescue the world’s milk supply.

Dairy cows worldwide have been stolen, meaning everyone is stuck eating dry cereal. Spy Fox is called onto the case, to find out where the cows are hidden. William the Kid is thought responsible, aiming for all cow milk to be replaced with goat’s milk, the supply of which he controls.

Spy Fox’s first clue takes him to the Greek island Acidophilus, where he meets up with operatives Monkeypenny and Professor Quack. Quack provides Spy Fox with the high-tech spy gadgets he’ll need to crack the case, like X-ray chewing gum and a laser toothbrush.

“Dry Cereal” even throws in a little “Casino Royale” style action, as Spy Fox can face off in a game of “Go Fish” with Mr. Bigpig in the cantina. This minigame is among the biggest delights in “Spy Fox.”

“Dry Cereal” is different every time the gamer plays through, which adds to the replay value of the game.

The game’s biggest frustration is the inexactness of the Wii controller. The game, developed for PC, requires a lot of pointing and clicking, which can be trickier with the Wii remote. But there’s not a lot of heavy gameplay beyond pointing to areas and clicking, and watching Spy Fox execute the plan. Thinking and plotting are the game’s key elements. Younger players who enjoy brainteasers and “Get Smart”-style humor should like “Spy Fox.”

The game is rated E for everyone and retails for $19.99.
