Everybody saw this over the weekend, I’m sure, but in case we’d like to discuss it here — Nikki Finke reported director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire are on board for Spider-Man 4, and possibly 5, as Sony is considering shooting the two movies concurrently.

What do you guys think?

Spidey 1 and 2 were two of the best superhero movies made, and I am glad to see both attached to the films in the future, but 3 had just a little to much going on, and please no dancing scenes for any of the characters.

I liked 3 better than most people seemed to, but I haven’t gone back and watched it since seeing it in the theater. 1 has its flaws, as well, but was quite a film for its time. Now, Spider-Man 2, that’s still a classic for the ages.

I’m obviously going to see whatever comes next. I think Raimi is a good person to be handling the characters; Maguire is Spider-Man to your average person, so I think the longer you can keep him in the suit, the better. Rebooting a franchise that’s working would be a risk, I think.

As long as Marvel doesn’t force any characters in the film (Venom!) that Raimi doesn’t really get behind, then the movies should remain good. If you go back and watch Spidey 3, you can see how much is dedicated to the continuing development between Peter, Mary Jane and Harry and the introduction of Sandman but the whole Venom premise seems just added in.

They could have pulled the story of Spidey getting a bit of an ego without adding in the alien costume and we still would have had an excellent film. One less character, and the ending wouldn’t have been so convoluted. My two cents anyhow. I know there are plenty of Venom fans out there who would probably disagree.

If Raimi is game for another couple of films and they let him choose how he wants to do them, they should be a blast….and I have to admit to being one of the people who thought the dancing scene from spidey 3 was hilarious :-)

i enjoyed 3 a lot more the second time, on DVD.

and I agree, number 2 is just brilliant all around.

4 and 5… i’ll be there. and the Lizard? it’s about time.

Black cat.

Black Cat could be interesting!

They’ve already gently introduced the Lizard in I believe Spiderman 2, and I’d love for them to continue with that.

Yeah, the rumor mill seems pretty heavy with the idea that it’ll be the Lizard. And, they’ve certainly hinted at it, with Dr. Connors already being introduced.
