Swimmer Michael Phelps won his eighth gold medal tonight in the 4X100 medley relay, setting a record for the most gold medals in a single Olympic Games. He set world records in 7 of the 8 races, and the one in which he didn’t — a 1/100th of a second victory over Serbia’s Milorad Cavic in the 100-meter butterfly — was a race that will live in Olympic lore.
Now that Phelps is done with his Olympic races, what’s next? Click past the cut for a few (not entirely serious) ideas.
Maybe a starring role as Namor, the Sub-Mariner in an upcoming Marvel movie?
Or might Warner Bros. convince him to play this King of the Seven Seas? (Sure, usually blond, but what’s a little bleach for a big-time Olympian?)
I like Aquaman — heck, I’m trying to help the guy get his hoodie made — but if I were Arthur Curry, I might be a little worried that the “water guy” spot in the Justice League might be about to be taken by Phelps.

I honestly was thinking the exact same thing when I saw him win his 7th. How much do you want to bet there are people at Marvel making calls to him regarding Namor?

I think it would be a cool idea to see either of the Kings of the deep to be made into a movie, but, both characters are the biggest jerks in their respective universes. Michael Phelps is such a down to earth guy, it seems. If he was a good actor, I wouldn’t want to see him like that. I honestly don’t think I could separate the character from the man.
