I thought the recent “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie would be completely awful, but I saw it with the kids, and they really enjoyed it. So, while I am probably more a “fan” of the 1980s “Chipmunks that look pretty much like kids,” clearly there’s a market for the “Chipmunks that look like real chipmunks.”
Collider reports that March 19, 2010 has been slated for the sequel. Jason Lee, who played David Seville, has yet to sign on.
