DVD review – Justice League: The New Frontier
From Friday’s The Oklahoman:
“Justice League: The New Frontier” is the first animated “Justice League” movie to receive a PG-13 rating, and as such, is aimed at teen and older fans of the property more than the younger set.
“New Frontier” is based on the DC comic book mini-series of the same name by writer/artist Darwyn Cooke, who served as a writer and producer on this direct-to-DVD animated adventure.
In “New Frontier,” the superheroes of the 1940s have been run out of business. But a new frontier of heroes was on the horizon.
Test pilot Hal Jordan (voiced by David Boreanaz), who was shaken up after his experience in the Korean War, finds another chance with Ferris Aircraft, which is secretly running tests for space missions. Jordan’s courage draws the attention of Abin Sur, a dying intergalactic policeman who wills his weapon, the power ring of the Green Lantern, to Jordan.
While certain elements from Cooke’s excellent comic-book series had to be left out for time, “The New Frontier” is an able adaptation that should thrill longtime.
