Captain America #34 goes back to press
The first appearance of the new Captain America has sold out at Diamond Comic Distributors, the exclusive distributor of Marvel Comics to direct-market comic book shops.
Marvel is going back to press on “Captain America” No. 34 with a “director’s cut” edition, featuring bonus materials and the entire script from writer Ed Brubaker.
“Comics Journal” critic Rob Vollmar said issue No. 34 was well-received.
“I felt like it sold through real well to the people who would buy superhero comics,” Vollmar, who also is a manager of the Atomik Pop comic book store, said. “We probably doubled our normal Captain America sales.”
While Vollmar said the mainstream frenzy over the new Captain America didn’t eclipse the furor over the original Captain’s death, it did draw attention to the series.
“It’s a fantastic book, fantastically written and fantastically drawn,” Vollmar said.
The director’s cut goes on sale March 12.
