Podcast: Open Mike – Should OKC Worry About The Ricky Rubio Situation?
The alleged Ricky Rubio situation can only gain more steam from here out and grow into a much bigger issue. I expect it will as we get closer to the draft. Here we have one of only two players in this draft who is projected to be a star and he is likely headed for one of the two smallest markets.

Darnell, the link still doesn’t work. And I was excited to hear why you and Mike think that when Rubio’s people say “definitely not OKC”, what they actually mean is OKC is a great place to raise a family and the people are the nicest people ever and he loves Bricktown.
It’s not like it should come as a big surprise. Oklahoma isn’t exactly known for being among the most exciting states in the country, or even in the south. If the team wants to snag players, they’re going to have to be able to come up with more appetizing packages than other NBA cities because the mystique of the city sure isn’t going to draw anyone in.
All that said, I’m seeing this as a potential bargaining chip. His agent wants to try to get the best deal hospital, so he’s telling the two teams most likely to draft him that he’s not interested in hopes of milking a better deal out than a player in one of the weakest drafts ever might otherwise get.
Mark if your going to make a comment on here please try to know what your talking about first. Their is a rookie pay scale in the NBA and its all slotted by what pick you are. As for the other brainiacs that want to get on here and rip OKC, it turns out that Rubio has no problems playing for the Thunder. Wishing it just doesn’t make it true, but nice try haters.
