Wizards 104, Thunder 95

Observations from tonight’s game…..

* Thank goodness for the Golden State loss on Dec. 8. That one was so bad that it’s hard to rank any of these higher going forward. But consider tonight’s against the short-handed and struggling Wizards the runner-up.

* 21 offensive rebounds for the Wizards is unacceptable.

* 31 assists and only 11 turnovers for the Wizards is unacceptable.

* 23 more shot attempts for the Wizards is unacceptable.

* 20 Thunder turnovers is unacceptable.

* 3-28 is unbelievable.

* Jeff Green and Kevin Durant each scored 20-plus for the first time since Dec. 14. It didn’t matter because they got little help from anyone else.

* Somebody has to step up offensively other than Durant, Green and Westbrook. Westbrook struggled tonight, going 3-for-10, and nobody else could pick up the slack. Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and Desmond Mason have their moments, but they’re few and far between.

* The Thunder had no answer for Mike James, who set the tone early with seven points and five assists in the first quarter and had OKC on its heels the rest of the game.

* Amazing difference between the effort in Detroit and the effort shown tonight. It goes back to what Chris Wilcox told me following the loss to Detroit: “I think we play better when the competition is better. When we’re playing a team that’s been in the playoffs and things like that I think we bring our ‘A’ game. I think what we struggle with is playing down to our competition sometimes and that’s when we end up throwing games away. But we’re learning right now. We’re young and we still got room to grow.”

* Scott Brooks talked afterwards about the team needing to stay together.

“It’s tough on all of us, and they understand that,” Brook said. “They know where we are right now. It’s no fun having three wins. It’s important that we stay together, we continue to compete for one another. Not one guy in this locker room is a loser. Unfortunately we’re not getting wins like we should.”

Wilcox…

playing down to your competition?!!!

you are 3-28… you cant play down to your competition when you are the down.

What’s going on w/ Krstic and when will he play?

It’s time to tell it like it is, sports fans–and this is the most wretched road trip I’ve seen in 20 years, and possibly the worst Durham team in half a century. Where are the great Bull players of yesteryear? Where are the Footsie Blakes, the Digger O’Dells, the Gus Palowitzes?

Is the modern athlete a pale imitation of the great old warriors? Only Crash Davis stands out this year, begging the question, “What are these boys thinking about, ’cause it sure ain’t baseball.”
