Camp Observations: Day 4
A co-worker asked me today what’s new in Thunder world. Nothing, I said, absolutely nothing. I could post a long list of semi-interesting things but I’ll spare you from having to digest another lengthy post.
Coach P.J. Carlesimo is getting in a few more scrimmages before Wednesday’s preseason opener against Minnesota and likes where the team is thus far. The scrimmages are closed to the media, so I can’t tell you who looks like what. That’s why I’m so ready for Wednesday to get here, to see these guys in actual game action. Until then, we’re forced to rely on coaches and players for their take on what things look like behind the scene.
* The team will practice inside the Ford Center on Saturday. It will be the first time the Thunder takes the court in its new home.
* In Saturday’s paper, I’ll have a story on the team’s lack of 3-point shooters and how the team plans to overcome that weakness.
* Sherri Coale was a special guest at practice today.
* Kevin Durant made 15 straight mid-range jumpers from the right baseline when shooting after practice.
* Yesterday, P.J. said he plans on holding guys out of some exhibition games. Today he said that list includes everybody. Durant said he prefers to play rather than sit but will because P.J.’s running the show. P.J. said as much.
* Mo Sene and Robert Swift sat out today while recovering from various injuries.
* D.J. White we found out today has been very limited on the court. He has what team officials are calling a sore jaw.
* P.J. will give the team Sunday off and will push them hard Monday and Tuesday.
* Joe Smith said P.J. has to kick guys out of the gym because they’re gym rats and won’t go home.
* Mike Baldwin today had on what likely will go down as the most hideous shirt you’ll see this season. Some of the Thunder players and staff had a little fun with it today. You be the judge. Baldwin says his wife bought him the shirt. I’m not buying it. (You can also see some of Durant’s shooting touch at the 1:47 mark of the above video).
* I just did a lot of what I said I wouldn’t do.
