More Sonics developments
The Seattle Times is reporting that the NBA worried last year that the Sonics Oklahoma owners may have violated their good faith promise to secure an arena deal in the Seattle area.
The Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that the same judge presiding over the case between the Sonics and city of Seattle will now preside over the case between the Sonics and Howard Schultz.
Also, Seattle Deputy Mayor Tim Ceis told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that the city is nowhere close to negotiating with the Sonics on a settlement. That of course counters growing sentiments from other Seattle politicians and key players in the case who earlier this week expressed a desire to take a settlement under the right circumstances.
Here’s a good video some Sonics fans in Seattle put together on the night the Sonics arrived back in Seattle following their season finale at Golden State. It’s 5 minutes, 35 seconds and worth checking out…..
And finally, Eric Musselman, the former coach of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, waxed poetic about NBA fans in OKC on his blog which can be found here.

Apparently crack dealers are smarter than the PBC. I’ve got three words for Bennett and his group.
Pre-paid cell phone.
Tim Ceis is a man possesed! Thanks for making the case boys!
I refer to my nutsack as my cooly.
Munson is obviously very biased. He made this ridiculous statement in the ESPN article….
“The e-mails indicate Bennett’s group was misrepresenting its intentions and could easily qualify as proof of “fraud.” Two days before the sale, in a highly damaging e-mail, Bennett told one of his partners if an arena deal was eventually sealed in Seattle, they could do a “sweet flip” and just sell the team and leave Seattle.”
A “sweet flip” would have meant they got an arena built and sold the team to local owners which would in no way have been in violation of the sales agreement. Regardless of what he say’s, that email is not “highly damaging” The guys a fricken drama queen.
It’s been very sleazy the way Seattle and Shultz are attempting to try this in press. It’s going fun watching this play out.
Enjoy it while you can, Seattle trolls…..
The point is… if he was considering the “sweet flip” indicates he wasn’t gonna try real hard to get an arena deal in the first place. In fact, the only proposal he made was one he knew full well would not fly with politicians. He was trying to as hard as he possibly could to NOT make an arena happen in Seattle.
The email simply proves that intention.
Now that seattle has screwed this up so bad. Who in their right would want to run a franchise there?
They still have do not have a new arena nor a proposal for one and have made it quite clear they are not building one either. And if any of you seattle people actually believed in Ballmer’s offer you need your head checked. With the way the goverment in washington has tretaed the sonics owners for the past 7 years he had assurances nothing would be done and his offer of cash would not have to be paid.
The sweet flip comment didn’t indicate that he wasn’t going to try, it was mentioned as a possible option.
He proposed an arena in design and cost very similar to Miami’s new arena. 500 million for a new top of the line arena doesn’t sound unreasonable when the city of Seattle says a remodel of the Key that will cost over 300 million and will have Seattle right back in the same spot at the end of the lease period
Ballmer did Bennett a big favor by making such a generous offer and having it shot down by the state and county. It very clearly makes the point that Bennett had no chance to get an arena deal done there.
This whole thing is a big dog and pony show in Seattle. They’re going out of their way to try and embarrass Bennett and the NBA and try this in the press so that when they lose in court, they will have appeared to have put up a big fight.
It’s political grandstanding at it’s sleaziest.
.
Wonder when Liberty Mutual will get sued? How dare they purchase a losing company and cut most if not all jobs and take them elsewhere. Seattle wont stand for this they must SUE!
“Now that seattle has screwed this up so bad. Who in their right would want to run a franchise there?”
Of course there are sports owners out there just lining up to head to a city that couldn’t get anything done for 4 years straight but loves a lawsuit
NHL….You are on the Seattle lawsuit clock
the good people of okc made this thing sleazy.
and clay bennet, a man of honor and integrity. may be getting his much desired “physical time”. in a federal prison.
yeah, but you guys are right. okc looks great!! the beautiful world class city looks terrible! id call you all trolls, but im not even sure what that is?
OKC?????????????????
Everything laid out in front of seattle. Every t croseed every i dotted. seattle failed at every turn and is now making matters worse. Sleazy only begins to describe seattle. World Class? I think we have had this discussion——not even close!
bobby, this isnt your show. this is our team and our city. and we will win. and bobby stop ripping off your sports editor.
bennet is a thief and scumbag. thats a fact. and every single sports writer and respected journalist, agrees. this is the only attention okc has ever gotten. and you look terrible.
and if you believe differently. you need to wake up, and get out that okie dust.
When you attempted to build up seattle last I tried to offer you some relief in falsly conceding there was more money in seattle than Dallas. You were all wet then and are now.
Bennett is none of the above but your civic leaders are qucikly becoming ones. You are only looking through your seattle glasses. If it were your team then you or some one locally would own it.
And I will let your STUPID-UNEDUCATED & INSENSITIVE comment on the attention to OKC go but hopefully you WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN EVER. We will never forget April 19th and you should do some research on it apparently. Connie Chung made some silly statements about our City that did not turn out very well for her.
Wow, the hits just keep on coming.
In an e-mail last August, Sonics owner Clay Bennett told fellow owner Aubrey McClendon that NBA executive Joel Litvin was “looking into certain documents we signed at closing that may have been breached.”
So now we have the NBA offices knowing that they were lied to by Clay and yet they still denied it to the owners. I have a feeling David Stern is going to be selling hotdogs on a street corner by next season while Clay starts checking to see if the cell next to Ken Lay is available.
The amazing thing is that they still have just touched the tip of the iceberg in discovery. Who knows how bad this scandal is going to get before it is over.
Time for Clay and David to start working on the bail out plan.
bobby, throwing the okc bombing in this petty fight over sports. is disgusting. im ashamed of myself for talking to a person such as yourself. your filth.
and philip (spelled with 1 L), i know everyone’s pretty impressed with your endless amounts of time and energy dedicated to the nba in okc web-blogging. i know most of us come on here and have a good laugh at your expense and at the expense of the desperate and delusional okc folk, but apparently it’s not helping your luck with the ladies? we found you on myspace, match.com, eharmony, and matchmaker. your profiles are awesome, by the way. words of advice for the future, mix up you email addresses when you’re this much of a square. good luck with your quest for cyber companionship, buddy.
Yeah scurry away. You opened mouth & inserted foot not me. You and most of the people from seattle post here all day long and expect to make your statements without question.
Firstly its called a job look into it but you have to work not post on blogs all day long. You and your liberal brethren can move your posting to Seattle sites if the heat is too high here.
And you stating this is the most attention OKC has “ever” received only showed our age & stupidity.
Ok everyone, cool down here. The good people of OKC are victims of this fraud just like the people of Seattle are. There is no reason to hate each other it is Clay Bennett that committed the fraud and is destroying the reputation of OKC in the process.
So everyone take a chill pill and focus on the issues.
Here’s what Seattles most respected legal mind, who’s seen every email and is familiar with all the details of the Shultz publicity stunt had to say about things a couple of days ago……
“Former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton, who NBA Commissioner David Stern last week accused of implementing a “scorched-earth policy” against the Sonics, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that the city’s best chance at retaining the NBA is securing a replacement for the Oklahoma-bound Sonics.”
“While I’d still love to see the Sonics stay, I think that is highly unlikely,” said Gorton, the lead attorney for Seattle’s legal team. “What we’re trying to accomplish now, in my view, is to get another team in their place.”
Andy Simon is correct. Just because politicians and businessmen are dicks doesn’t mean that we have to follow their lead. It’s fine that the good people of Oklahoma City and the good people of the Sound have a spirited discussion about this. Seattle and Washington government might have done more to keep the Sonics in place before Bennett bought the team. Bennett’s plan all along was to take the team to Oklahoma City. If Seattle and/or Schultz wins their lawsuit, and the Sonics stay in Seattle, you should take it out on Bennett, not Sounders.
I’m a Seattlite that is very interested in how OKC fans are viewing this whole fiasco. First, I ‘d like to apologize for the insults and attacks that are being hurled at your city and state. Most Seattle fans know that your area just wants an NBA team and that your city is not responsible for how this fiasco has played out.
It seems that the prevailing OKC sentiment is that if Seattle really wanted a team they should just build a new stadium. It just isnt that simple from our point of view. Key Arena is an excellent place to view a hoop game and this is a fact that David Stern is on record of having said when it premiered 10 years ago. Thats right, we just did $200+ million dollars of renovations 10 YEARS AGO!! How will you feel when Stern and Bennett come asking for tax dollars for a new stadium 5-10 years from now? You will be pissed off and you will know how and why we object to giving millionaires endless tax breaks and financial incentives, especially when it is demanded under threat of leaving to another NBA starved city ( there are many that will line up to take your franchise too). People refer to the Seahawks and Mariners stadium that have been built. The Sonics were actually the first of our three franchises to receive public funds to fix Key Arena. Having three pro franchises requires a certain amount of process in government to obtain funding for arenas and the NBA and the Sonics have tried to jump to the front of the line. Given time, the Sonics will ( or would have) received a stadium solution in Seattle. Our legislature has already given assurances that it will be on the agenda for the next session and the package that has been proposed by Steve ballmer and his group will be passed. I just want you folks in OKC to understand the high stakes game of poker that you are joining. We have been sitting at the table for 40 years. If they will boot us out of the game in this manner, you should be a little nervous yourselves for the moment when they raise the ante for you while Bennett and Co. reap the pot. An NBA team is a privilege, but you will soon begin to see the pitfalls of a business model that masks its own shortcomings by devouring it’s own.
Finally, the fans in Seattle want OUR Sonics, the team we have been supporting for 40+ years. OKC wants NBA. There is a difference. You cannot possibly be emotionally attached to the Sonics. We LOVE them, even when our politicians are more worried about being re-elected. You want A team, any team. We want OUR team. David Stern obviously wants OKC to have a team so you will get one, whether its the Hornets or an expansion team. The fair solution would be for Stern and Bennett to allow the Sonics to stay in Seattle by overpaying Bennett and Co. to reaquire the team. There are already groups lined up to pay Bennett a nice profit for his troubles. The NBA could then give OKC the team they deserve through expansion. This lawsuit is beginning to look like a real fight and it is only gonna get uglier for the NBA and Clay. They may want to cut their losses and leave everyone happy: Clay and Co. with a profit and a team and Seattle with the Sonics.
It appears that you Seattle sheeple been reading the fiction on the sos blog……you know the powerhouse group that the Wa. state legislature treated as completely meaningless, the group that will always be remembered for the rally that brought Olympia to it’s knees ( well they did accomplish getting a couple of hundred people there who managed to get in the way and annoy people), the bunch you don’t want to tick off or they’ll fly a banner over your butt.
Braindead Brian and the fiction writers at the Times and Pi have got these idiots all worked up in to a tizzy, by taking the smallest things and blowing them completely out of proportion.
Skeletor, who has obviously seen all the emails and is well aware of the details of Shultz’s publicity stunt, told them just days ago that this team is gone and they need to settle before the trial starts…….but are they listening to the ace of the legal team? No, they’re buying every idiotic thing written…. hook, line and sinker.
After all the terrible things they’ve written about our state and it’s citizens it’s going to be a real shame watching them getting their hearts ripped out as the moving vans are rolling out of town.
I think we should call the team Outlaws to serve as a reminder for many years to come of them crying that we stole their team.
Mazin, You are abosultely right! I have been almost consumed with this over the last couple of weeks, reading about the suit, reading bloggers ridiculous comments, and occasionally leaving some of my own. I guess i didn’t think about the true difference between how we Seattle fans feel versus how OKC feels. They don’t have a clue about the X man, or how it was watching Kemp grow into such a force, or what it was like watching the glove jawing at everyone on the court, or watching the big smooth calmly knocking down 3’s when the clock shows zeros. This is OUR team. I understand OKC wants A team…..they don’t care which team (and quite frankly would probably prefer another team to our team). I hope the OKC folks understand why some Seattle fans are resorting to ridiculous name calling, and slander. It does not give an excuse, but Seattle fans truly have a personal bond with this team……something the OKC fans do not have.
Philip,
Slade Gordon is not the ace of the legal team. He is handling the lease issue. The true ace in all of this is Richard Yarmuth. He is the one handling the case that is going to keep the sonics in Seattle.
So the local hero that has been heading up the legal effort for the past year now gets no respect and your jumping on Yarmuths jock?……thats funny stuff.
Slade doesn’t seem to be taking Shultz’s publicity stunt too seriously….you probably ought to listen to him.
Philip,
I’m not exactly sure who told you Slade Gordon is a local hero??? He is a former senator that is helping out on the cities lease suit which would help to keep the sonics in seattle through 2010.
Yarmuth is the one that is behind the suit that will keep the Sonics in Seattle for good.
One other thing, if next year the Sonics play in Oklahoma City, and two years from now, Bennett says he wants the city so cough up half a billion (and name one government project that doesn’t run up over-costs) for a brand new state of the art arena in an exclusive neighborhood on shoreline property. You’d say, “Hey, we just dumped a bunch of money into an almost brand new arena, wtf?” Of course, this is exactly what happened here, yet the sports writers in Oklahoma City write stuff like Seattle wasn’t willing to do anything to keep the team, etc. It’s very obvious to the people of SeaTac that Stern is in Bennetts pocket. Only a couple of years ago, Stern was gushing about how nice the new Key Arena is. Now, hearing him speak, it should be condemned. The people of Oklahoma City should be aware of what they’re getting into, it might seem all rosy right now, but be careful.
Crom, Seattle is the ones with only two years left on their lease.
The Sonics will begin a 15 year lease they’ve already agreed to and signed when they get to OKC. We are fully aware that we will probably need a new arena around 2025 if we want to keep our team,
Of course, we’d have to be stupid to be coming up on the end of our lease and think we don’t have to reach a new lease agreement if we want to keep our team.
I suspect that we will build a facility on the order of the Alamo Dome before the next decade is over.
I have posted my thoughts on the Seattle/OKC dispute on my blog, “The Green Flame” which can be reached by clicking on my name in this post.
Philip,
If you think you’d make it 15 years with the existing arena you’re drunk.
Afterall Seattle had exactly what the NBA wanted in 95′ and began demands of a new arena in 04′, while there was still 6 years on the lease.
If Bennet was successful in stealing away the sonics, I would expect new arena demands to begin in the next 2-4 years.
Phillip,
If you think the NBA will wait till 2025 to say the Ford Center needs to be replaced then I honestly feel sorry for you. We have already heard rumblings way out her in Seattle that the $100 million makeover that the Ford Center is due is only a temporary fix for the new arena that will need to be built WAYYYY before 2025. I think you guys are gonna wanna reserve some of the KY that we in Seattle are using right now for the royal screwing that your gonna get in about 7 years.
Also, you better hope you win quick because the enthusiastic crowds that greeted the novelty of the Hornets for 2 years will feel differently after a few seasons of getting pounded in the Western Conference.
No offense but ignorance is bliss. You guys are about to get an Ivy League caliber education in the REALITY of Pro Sports. The game on the court/field/rink is great but the off-court issues include, but are not limited to: shady leagues, greedy owners, immature and irresponsible RICH athletes, paternity suits, rap sheets, lawless entourages, guns, drugs, dwi’s, forgiving legal systems, taxes taxes and more taxes…. All these things are commonplace in urban areas, we know how to deal with them and they only alienate us. There is a chance they will APPALL your city. This may threaten your “rabid” fan base. If you guys thought the Switzer Sooners were outta control, imagine Charles Johnson and Jamelle Holloway with about 80 million in their pockets.
Your town deserves a team and you will have a team. I hope this will not sway you but there is alot more to pro sports than sports. Be careful what you wish for…. you just might get it.
for those new to this blog, this is facebook philip, here’s here all day. a local okc expert on law, economics, pro-sports franchises, the city of seattle, politics, and the media. oh, and online dating extraordinaire. enjoy trying to get his dungeon and dragons logic to adhere to the laws of reason.
but you have to give it to okc folk, while we may not understand it, they are sacrificing quite a bit of their public services in order to join the big leagues. http://www.purcellregister.com/article-display.asp?idnum=4218
Isn’t it funny that some creep from Seattle wants to come here and lecture us about “sacrificing to join the big leagues” when his city is a billion dollars in debt on sports facilities. What an ignorant hypocrite.
We’ll take our chances on the Ford Center remodel lasting the length of the lease. The Key has lasted 13 years and its the smallest arena with the fewest seats and the worst revenue streams in the NBA. I doubt that will describe the Ford Center in 13 years but if it does, you can bet that we’ll address the problem.
What we won’t be doing is throwing temper tantrums, calling childish names and blaming everyone else for our problems.
I am sure that we will face a schooling, but we are not wholly ignorant about what big league sports are all about. We are also very quick learners. We had to be nimble to host the Hornets.
Leases mean squat. This whole thing cracks me up, I’m not even a basketball fan, my concern is on the business end of things. Don’t let your local sports commentator whip you up into a lather about it. The whole point here is that there’s zilch-point-nothing wrong with Key Arena, have any of you ever been there? Stern is at the helm of a sports league which has become a three ring tattooed man circus, and he found a guy with lots of money. All of a sudden, Seattle won’t do anymore.
Ford Center draw less than expected as fans realize that tickets will cost $35/seat per game. With Hornets subsidies gone, season ticket costs fail to attract the number to sustain team profitability. Bennett realizes his sweet flip to Austin buyers group. Even OKC calls him a liar now.
Remember when OKC was going to get an NBA franchise by relocating the Seattle Supersonics?….Good times!
this is not oklahoma’s fault, it’s dubai’s fault. it’s the damn rich middle eastern oil men that are using bennett as a puppet to begin the process of moving all sports teams out of america.
get ready for the baghdad red sox versus the new delhi yankees for the AL pennant.
future, thats a good point. i have brought that up before. the people of okc did not pay real NBA prices for tickets. the average income in okc is only about 22000 a year. and people keep spinning the numbers to benefit okc. the true price of a NBA ticket is something you cant spin. an 8 dollar beer, 5 dollars for popcorn etc. etc.. the average oklahoman cant afford to go.
Joey has a great point. Even after your seat cost you are in for $40+ for average beer and lousy food. Take that to 40 games and you are in for $4400 for the season – minimum. Its another car payment.
Phillip
You say the darnedest things.
Seattle isn’t ‘In debt for a Billion Dollars on Sporting venues’. Why do you make up things like that? It makes you sound stupid..er
The Seattle Sonics do not have a 15 year lease to play in Oklahoma City. PBC LLC has a 15 year lease to field an NBA Basketball team to play in Oklahoma City. If they lose the Sonics in Court they will have to find another team, pay off the lease or go Bankrupt.
Your story about Gordon giving up is interesting. Have you ever heard of the Carrot and the Stick?
Gordon offered the Carrot. “We should negotiate a settlement. Here are our terms. A team to play in Seattle beginning in 2011. A monetary settlement that will pay off the Key lease and pay off the Key debt. Let’s talk.”
Shultz offered the Stick the next day. “I am going to sue you in Federal court, humiliate you by publicizing your stupid emails, depose your lying Ass in front of a Federal Judge and National Television audience. I am going to drag the NBA and David Stern through the dirt depose them, tear apart their economic records and expose them to ridicule and derision..”
The Carrot and the Stick.
What do you think?
“and National Television audience”
Pretty sure the ratings would be slightly lower than O.J.’s since no one outside of Wash and Okieville could give a crap less about how this turns out
Schultz will need to also take the stand and lie under oath when he will say he truly felt the team would stay…Actually he may burst into flames a little quicker than Bennett if he mutters those words
Look for his hand to hover slightly over the bible instead of touching it
“Remember when OKC was going to get an NBA franchise by relocating the Seattle Supersonics?”
Well the Sonics franchise is only slightly better than an expansion team but I guess we will take what we can get
Remember when Seattle folks last made a prediction that actually turned out to be right in this situation?…Good times
David Stern sounds like he’s really shook up about these lawsuits…..
The Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City — either next season or in 2010 — and not even the desperate pleas of the dejected Seattle fans can save their favorite team from leaving this summer or in three years.
By DAN GELSTON, AP Sports Writer
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — NBA commissioner David Stern knows a court order can only keep the SuperSonics in Seattle for the short term.
The Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City — either next season or in 2010 — and not even the desperate pleas of the dejected Seattle fans can save their favorite team from leaving this summer or in three years.
“Subject to all lawful orders of the court, the Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City, whether it’s the end of this season, next season or the season after that,” Stern said Friday. “Could I imagine circumstances, without precedent, where some court does something? It would be hard to imagine there would be any circumstances legally that would preclude the Sonics from moving at the end of their lease.”
http://newsok.com/stern-still-ok-with-supersonics-move/article/3235135/?tm=1209172000
yeah phil, stern is all in! of course his support continues. he is a little bitch. just like bennet is soon to be.. in a federal prison!
ya know what sukie means? bennet will know soon enough!
(thats russian for prison bitch)
Philip, 1 thing I want to point is that you say that 10-15 years from now (if the Sonics are in OKC), that you’ll handle the situation well and not make it a problem.
I can tell you one thing: It’s pretty easy to say that now when you’ve got 10-15 years until it acutally happens.
As for Stern’s comments on the situation, what is he supposed to say? Is he supposed to say “looks like Bennett is screwed” or “I doubt Bennett can win this case”?
okc, for all intents and purposes is a 3 world nation! poverty reigns supreme! hideousness, desperation wins the right wing conservative, day!! i come from an oasis. you come from digusting crap box!!!! i feel sorry for you folk!
joey, you got nothing. You seem to lack the ability to discuss this intellegently or on it’s merits.
Just keep talking sh*t like a 13 year old girl and we’ll keep laughing at your posts.
The Sonics are moving…..now that’s funny.
“okc, for all intents and purposes is a 3 world nation”
What the heck is a 3 world nation anyway?…If you are going to troll at least try and make some sense
I’m from Seattle and frankly don’t care to have the Sonics here anymore – I subscribe to the “Citizens for More Important Things” concept, frankly, that there are more important things in Seattle than bothering w/ the Sonics.
When the lowest paid players are all over $1m and the average NBA salary is over $5m, it’s very difficult to watch the games when they begin in the 4th quarter! And if the game is not close at the end of the 3rd, the players mail it in. Guaranteed contracts will do in a league every time.
The NBA business model is broken and has been for some time – Last year Presti (An excellent GM btw) traded away Allen and Lewis because EACH WAS MAKING $18m! $1.5m per month!
I gave up my Sonics tickets 4 years ago after I turned to my wife and said – “”for $120+ per game, let’s find something better to do”
She was an avid fan, but we did just that – figured out something better to do.
Seattle has a ton of alternatives and frankly doesn’t need the Sonics.
I write this because if you look around the league and really pay attention to the teams and the fans, 2 things are evident:
1/ There are at least 12 teams that are barely scraping by and are not competitive
2/ The days of an average person “taking the family to the game” are OVER – doesn’t happen.
As to the “players” in this trailer park nightmare, Stern and Bennett are in for a loooong haul they will wish they never, ever got themselves into – The City of Seattle, the State of Washington and Schultz all have the big $$$$$ to perpetuate a suit for years. Sure the NBA and Clay have big $$$$$$ also, but generally the adversaries are not so well matched financially.
Since these many, many e-mails have come out (I presume there are others that will surface near the trial date) the plaintiffs are now pxxxxd off to such a degree their heels are dug in – The most likely outcome is the team will move after the lease is up, in 2 years, Bennett, et al will have suffered HUGE losses and the NBA (Stern) will be exposed in a way they never conceived.
Remarkable what unchecked ego and money can destroy.
I prefer college sports now and frankly, Oklahoma has great college tradition – support those teams – the heck with the pros.
In the end, OKC, just know that after say 4 years or so, if the franchise is not remarkably successful, Clay and the boys will be
complaining about a number of things and may end up making threats: I can just say this – Make darned certain the Ford Centers’ lease is AIR TIGHT, as the time WILL come.
I don’t know what it is Darnell but your blog seems to be a magnet for freaks and wierdos from Washington.
Very strange…….
I have a question: who do you guys think the biggest douchebag is, Joey from Seattle or Philip from Oklahoma City? Maybe they’re twins from Arkansas separated at birth, and each ended up in a trailer in different cities. Most of you guys have something to say, but these two seem to camp out in front of their computers waiting for a chance to again display their trash genes.
it’s like a weird place far from any major bodies of water, culture, environment, metropolis, or advanced civilization…
crom your very clever. and coolguy quick question? what exactly do the people for more important things do? the only thing i see you miserable boring people do is stand in the way of pro sports. civic pride seems pretty important to me!
Face it Joey, NBA basketball is a freak show, and I can think of lots of stuff to do with my money, rather than hand it over to a band of tattooed millionaires. I say to the Sonics, don ‘t let the door hit you on the way out, and don’t forget to pay. You’re within a short drive of: the ocean, the mountains, a rain forest, an arid desert, surfing, wind surfing, skiing, water skiing, jet skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, more civic events and festivals than you can shake a stick at, and dirt cheap prescription drugs in Canada. Don’t tell me you can’t find something to do if the Sonics leave.
I can’t disagree with anything that Crom just said, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want the Sonics to leave.
There is plenty to watch in the Northwest, even if the Sonics aren’t there. We’ve got Pac-10 basketball, which is the most exciting and competitive basketball of the year. Then you’ve got the NCAA Tournament, an event which is only eclipsed by the Super Bowl, Olympics, and World Cup. And then you’ve got the MLB season beginning at the same time as the Tourney is winding down. And that’s just sports on TV.
Personally, I can live without the Sonics if that’s what it comes to. But I have many good friends that have been lifelong Sonics fans and I want to help them because I don’t want to feel like I let them down.
of all the crap that seattle people have tried to throw in my face about how much better their city is than oklahoma city, nothing has really sounded that impressive.
until crom said, “dirt cheap prescription drugs in Canada.” well, now THERE is something impressive. all that other hippie outdoor civic stuff, i couldn’t give a crap. but CHEAP prescription drugs, that’s the coolest thing about that region i’ve heard yet.
One other thing, donuthead, we have a sense of humor, too, something that you apparently lack. Don’t take life so seriously, don’t go looking for things to hate. You assume I’m a hippie, when in fact I’m just a regular middle class ex-military woodworker who belongs to a gun club and has a CCW. (which, by the way, in this “hippie” state _must_ be issued on demand barring felony records or long term asylum visits, as opposed to Oklahoma, where you fork over money for your “classes”) So your pre-conceived bias regarding the Sound is about as dumb as people assuming that everyone in Oklahoma City sports a mullet, drives a crappy pickup, and has a John Deer ball cap permanently attached to their heads.
So they still wear mullets in Ok? I was born in Ok and have lived and love both places. This is not anything to do with the states this is about basketball. I feel it’s great that Ok had made a choice to donate state funds so they can observe millionaires. Since they are so generous would they be interested in paying my rent also?
crom, all those things you mentioned are all things i participate in. with the exception of hunting. i love this place and all the wonderful things is has to offer. but you cant put a limit on that. im love our sports teams im proud of them. just letting them go because we have so much more to do. i just dont get that thinking? i cherish my seattle life! its never boring. and the sonics are part of that!
crom, dude, RELAX.
“pre-conceived bias?” what the hell are you talking about? i wasn’t making fun of anything, try to ’sense the humor,’ i was being anything but serious. geez. i was making a joke. i didn’t say anything mean, so why so defensive? if you were more familar with this blog, you would know i wouldn’t disrespect anyone else’s region, i’m here to kill time and goof off.
i just like pills more than i like going mountain clinbing. take a pill yourself, and laugh more often. (by the way, some people don’t take offense to the word ‘hippie.’)
donut, be careful with the pills. ive had several friends go to rehab because of painkillers. pill heads are the worst you cant hold a simple conversation with them, even when thier sober!
The main problem with Oklahoma is that everything in the entire state is dirty. Everything. The houses are dirty, the stores are dirty, the public places are dirty, and the people are dirty. The dirt is everywhere on everything. Most of the state is given over to dirt. The rest seems to be devoted to cattle ranching, oil drilling, or Fort Sill, the U.S. Army Field Artillery Center. Why build a massive artillery range in Oklahoma? Because there is absolutely no danger of hitting anything of value. My Dad was at Fort Sill when he was in the Army back in the 70s, and the only story I can remember him telling about it was that he and every other guy in his unit went out for a weekend pass and came back with the clap. So the women in Oklahoma are especially dirty. They also play a dirty trick with the beer there. Beer in Oklahoma is 3.2% alcohol by volume, as opposed to 5% in the rest of the country. So you can’t even have a decent drink to make the fact that you’re stuck in the ass-crack of the country any more bearable.
whoa, must be a university of texas fan, i’ve only seen hatred of oklahoma like that from UT people. i can’t figure out this generalized hatred for an entire region, from another region. it’s funny.
darrell, are you that mad at me (and the whole state) that you have to post things like that? maybe you should take some of those pills i was JOKING about. you condemn the whole state, but the whole state doesn’t want the sonics. that is what this is about, right? anyway, keep typing. people like you prove my point.
oh yeah, only beer in convenience stores is 3.2. liquor stores, bars, restaurants, etc. all have regular beer. it sucks, yes, but darrell isn’t exactly up on his oklahoma facts.
oh yeah, crom. i just clicked on the link on your name, and, uh, nevermind. anyone that thinks you need an AR-15 for personal safety, uh, yeah, whatever you say, i’m not disputing you. i can see how the word ‘hippie’ might come across as a negative to someone encouraging everyone to buy machine guns. zoinks!
Joey, I’m in the south end, near Tacoma. And donuthead, you don’t read carefully, I recommended the AK-47 over the AR-15 for a first assault rifle due to cost and ammo availability!
hell no i didn’t read that carefully, THAT is the stuff that scares me. i’m all for guns, but i don’t feel like i want my neighbors having an AK, or whatever machine gun you recommend. it’s all apples and oranges to me. but hey, whatever you say. my bad. seriously, i didn’t mean to misrepresent you. it won’t happen again. really, i’m sorry.
(please don’t shoot me as i back slowly away…)
Last night, I was watching the Portland / Oklahoma baseball game on TV, and I realized that while I enjoy watching AAA baseball, I haven’t watched an NBA game in about ten years. I know that I’m no alone when I say that the NBA has become a freakshow. If you guys want a franchise for the sake of having one, that’s cool, but I still think that they should pay a hefty fine for early withdrawl from here.
yeah, the NBA is getting pretty bad. example: all year we’ve all heard how unbeatable the celtics are, and now the hawks-THE HAWKS-have them tied up. i mean the hawks? have they won 100 games this century?
DONUTEYE,
NOTHING FROM US IS MAKING SENSE??? how come i get an almost weekly phone calls from the 2 motels, and, the softball organization our softball teams were going to be staying at in your “dustbowl”, requesting me to not cancel all our reservations?? they seem to see me making sense!!! and, to not blame your city bobby?? you have held a public vote…..duh. it has become a huge us against them battle. clay-boy insured to drag all of okie city into this mess, with that vote. if okie city didnt want the negative publicity, and, business to be as usual with residents of our “fine” city, then, dont hold a vote, and, put a muzzle on ol’ mic! but, the bed had been laid, so, lie in it!!!! and believe me, seattle/okie city are not the only 2 cities in the nation observing this. i have a shipper’s alliance nationwide (over 10,000 members), and, i have read only 3 emails among thousands, that, said anything good about okie city in this mess. and if all you can say about the seattle area is we didnt do what the nba/clayboy requested an built a new arena that is supposedly needed (but, why advertise premium seating @ keyarena is”the best seat in pro sports” on the sonics website). we are making a stand, is all. we are a precedent setting city, not a city that has every others city’s leftovers. oh philip, by the way, my next-door nieghbor is a law clerk down at the FEDERAL courthouse, and, she fills me in daily on what is new. i could tell you a number of legal wranglings going on down there over this case, but, the juicest gossip is the sonics cant dodge all the suits!!!! SEE YA’ALL IN JUNE OR NOVEMBER (SINCE CLAYBOY HAS NOW DONE ANOTHER STUPID CUORTROOM BOOBOO, WITH HIS REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL DAMAGES. THIS INSURES A DELAY IN THE TRIAL, AND, THE SONICS ARE GOING TO BE HERE IN OCTOBER WHEN THE NEW SEASON STARTS!!LOL!! THANKS CLAYBOY-LOVE YYOOOUUUU!!!
mike u.
what? is that directed at me? i didn’t say anything about any of that. i don’t care about softball or the NBA.
but anyway, is it just me, or are there some similarities between Daniel Plainview and Clay Bennett? anyone with me?
ya know, it’s like my dad told me once when talking about riots and Y2K hysteria… i asked him if he was believing the hype and if he was going to stockpile food. he said, “no, i’m stocking up on ammo. because if you’ve got food, and i’ve got guns, soon i have food AND guns.”
so you see, i understand.
mike, god luv ya. but if i have to hear about your god damn softball team one more time. so help me god i will shoot myself!!!
Really you need to understand S.O. Save Oklahoma is a group committed to providing you with accurate information. Did this state not vote for George Bush twice? Better information will help you understand whey C.B is very much like G.B when it comes to ethics.
What’s up with that softball story? I’m an old fart, and like to play softball as much as the next guy, but this is Seattle/Oklahoma City Sonics stuff.
Okay, what do you guys in Oklahoma City want to rename the Sonics to? My vote is for the “Oklahoma City Oilers”
BTW donuts, that’s a great story. Millions of people live in the townhouses that overlook the bays in Seattle and Tacoma and Portland and San Fransisco and Los Angeles. Most of the people here, though, are just regular people who pay taxes and carry guns and think Obama’s a d&&k.
crom, you live in a red state. thats why you live in filth. our city is clean and beautiful. because were liberal, we care. WE PAY FOR IT!! obama is not a dick. he simply has a brain. and people from oklahoma, are intimidated by intelligence. and men that carry guns are compensating for a little penis!
I live in The Sound, Burt. Being in the construction industry takes me into the city quite often, where I _always_ carry. There are more people that live here than you and your douchebag friends on Capitol Hill and Fremont. For our friends in Oklahoma City, Fremont is a city in Seattle that actually has a statue of Lenin in a public park on the waterfront.
Burt’s a perfect example of why there should be a civics test before being allowed to vote. He doesn’t even know…
Crom, your a cute braindead drone. You have elected the worst world leader since hitler! But there is one big difference between Bush and Hitler. Hitler had a brain!! Yes, he was an evil man. but at least he was smart! According to the nexus bush has an IQ of 95! Thats 15 points below the average! And you say there should be a civics test before im allowed to vote.
Crom, your a typical scared little conservative coward. And without your guns, your still the pudgy little fat kid who couldnt make the football team!!
so, are you saying that hitler is better than bush?
i HATE george W, but that is ignorant. i hope a jew beats your ass.
When pointing out how stupid others are, people inevitably mis-spell or use words out of context. And in typical liberal fashion, you simply have nothing to say and quickly move on to the name calling. Do you honestly think that you’re any better than the people of Oklahoma City? Liberal elitism is one of those things that really turn people off. Calling people names on an out of state blog, and, when in doubt, invoke Hitler, demonstrates that you’re no more sophisticated than the guy living next to the freeway down in Fife.
Speaking of Iraqi ass kickings, wasn’t Baghdad just voted as a nicer place to live than OKC???…hahahahhaha.
On the bright side, you okies can take solace in the knowledge that there is at least one list out there where not being no. 1 is desirable.

Here’s to residing in the most livable and educated city in the country and to another 41 years of SEATTLE Sonics basketball!
DONUTEYES,
WAS REPLYING TO YOU ABOUT NOT MAKING IT A US-AGAINST-THEM DEAL. THIS HAS BECOME ECONOMICS, MY MAN, THUS, THE ECONOMICS OF MY NOT SPENDING $30,000 IN YOUR TOWN ANY LONGER, DUE TO THE FACT, MY MONEY GOES TO CITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT REPRESENT INTEGRITY, AS WELL AS, A GOOD CAUSE (NOT LYING, THIEVING,ETC). AND BURT, I KEEP BRINGING UP THE SOFTBALL “TEAMS” NOT TEAM, AS MY PART IN THE ECONOMICS OF THE WHOLE DEAL. AND, KILLING YOURSELF IS NOT GOING TO BRING MY MONEY BACK TO YOUR “DIRTY” TOWN. BY THE WAY, PHILLIP & DONUTEYES, DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE COURT RULING YESTERDAY??? ANOTHER BULLET CLAY-BOY DID NOT DODGE!!!! SEE YA’ALL IN JUNE!!! BECAUSE JUDGE PARCHMAN SAYS SO!!!!!
MIKE U.
especially this latest….now the city of okie is threatening thier NEW partners in this lame attempt at stealing something that is not thiers in the first place. talk about backwards ass, in-bred, back-stabbing okie’s!!! ol’ mic brought you to this gunfight with a lasso, now, he is trying to cover his own ass!!!!LOL!!! he is doing what all you mouthy okie’s have been saying we in Seattle should not be doing, defending his contract with clay-boy. I DO NOT CARE WHO YOU ARE, THAT IS FUNNY!!! SEE YA’ALL IN JUNE!!!1
mike u.
Too much bickering….goodness gracious.
Let me outline a few things guys. The fans want this team, unfortunately we’ve got STATE officials who are as big of liars as Clay Bennett. In fact, the only people in this WHOLE thing, both in OKC and Seattle, who have shown a shred of honesty and effort are the fans. Cornett is a Liar, Gregoire is a Liar, Chopp is a Liar, Bennett (PBC) is a Liar, and so is Stern. None of those people deserve to remain in positions they are in…none of them. We have emails guys, genuine correspondence that show all of the above to be true that whole list of people.
We want our team, you can slam SOS and sonicscentral.com all you want, but we’ve worked harder than any fan base I have personally ever seen….it’s easy to slight people Philip when all you want to do is destroy others. Especially, when you aren’t investing your time and energy into keeping your team. IF you have to slam people then that is your MO, but you only give OKC a bad name…just like those from Seattle, who come on this board who do the same.
The fact is: Noone on this board seems to want to do anything but slam….all of you need to grow the heck up.
wow, that was weak. i’d rather be called an inbred by some over-excited, over-repetetive teenager like michael u. than have to read that boring sunday-school repremand from joshua, i mean joshu@, whatever.
oh, by the way, the NBA sucks. all year we are told that the celtics are unbeatable. again they are tied up in their series, in the EAST, where we are told no good teams play.
“than have to read that boring sunday-school repremand from joshua, i mean joshu@, whatever.”
Hahahaha…well you 1. Took enough time to read it and 2. put enough thought behind it to respond and differentiate between michael and myself concerning our contrasting styles of posts. But you are right, calling for civility, real discussion, real debate, and respect from both sides is weak….what is the world coming to when we actual have to act like human beings….

Everyone should also listen to ESPN Legal Analyst Lester Munson on Seattle Sports Radio station 950 KJR this morning.
