Fan heckles Clay Bennett, shown the door

Apparently a fan voiced his opinion of the state of the Sonics to Clay Bennett at Sunday night’s Sonics game in Seattle and was shown the exit for his actions. A Seattle Times beat writer for the Sonics has a blog with the fan providing the details of the exchange. Bennett was in a suite with legendary Celtics center Bill Russell and Sonics GM Sam Presti. The fan’s name is Sam Kidder and here’s what he e-mailed the Times reporter….

“Clay Bennett, the beloved owner of the Sonics, had the gall to show up at the Sonics-Kings game tonight. When I shared my opinions with him, he had me kicked out of the building! I heard someone mention on sonicscentral that Bennett would be at the game tonight, so I looked for him in the luxury boxes. I spotted him in the box above section 127, sitting with Presti and Bill Russell. Of course my girlfriend and I moved over to the seats right below him. I looked up at him and started chatting with him. Here’s the dialogue that followed…

Sam: Clay, what’s up? You’re a thief Clay!
Clay: shrugs, smirks and blows me a kiss (I swear to God this is no lie)
Sam: I’ve been a season ticket holder since age 10. Don’t steal my team!!!
Clay: makes a face of mock pity
Sam: Sell the Sonics!!!
Clay: walks to the back of the suite, never to reappear

[Thirty] seconds later, two Key arena police officers and a street-clothed man pulled me and my girlfriend out of our seats. They asked for my ID, confiscated my tickets, and escorted me out of the building. I asked the plain-clothed man if he worked for the police or Bennett, and he said “Both.” He then told me I needed to show more respect or else I’d be banned from the arena. I told him I’d be back every game…

In retrospect, I was a little out of control but it is still ludicrous that Bennett would have me kicked out despite the fact that I didn’t utter a profane word.”

The Seattle reporter goes on to say in the blog that team officials said Bennett had nothing to do with the fan’s removal and he was “actually surprised they did it and didn’t think it was necessary.”

when it really comes down to it. do you people, really think that the already struggling NBA. would move a team from a large, beautiful, very rich city. and move it to a tiny dirty, poverty stricken, crime infested, rat hole? come on use your heads. get over it. even with our stadium issue you cant compete with seattle! you a 4th class regional city. we are a first class world city!!

Joey you prove that seattle is the #1 depressed city in the USA.
I feel sorry for ignorant people like you.If ypu ever find a way to OKC you will find out how friendy okies are.I feel sorry for pitiful
negative people like you.

IT ISNT A QUESTION OF HOW FRIENDLY YOU ARE OKIE’S. WE COME EVRY SUMMER FOR A NUMBER OF SOFTBALL TOURNEY’S. YOU GUYS ARE FRIENDLY. YOU ARE A SERVICE DRIVEN CITY (DUE TO THATS ALL YOU HAVE), BUT, WE ALSO HAD A NUMBER OF TRUCK’S BROKEN INTO AT OUR HOTELS, OUR SHORTSTOP WAS HELD-UP AT A CONVIENCE STORE, AND, YOUR CITY IS DIRTY. DEPRESSED?? TRY A TOP 10 CITY FOR FOLKS TO RELOCATE WITH A FAMILY. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, INSTEAD, OF OPENING YOUR MOUTH WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, JUST LIKE MR. BENNETT. OH, BY THE WAY, NO MORE SOFTBALL FOR OKCITY FOR US. WE ARE TAKING OUR $3000+ TO ST. LOUIS THIS YEAR, AND, WILL NEVER EVEN STOP AT A REST AREA IN OKLAHOMA.

AND A SIDE NOTE: PRETTY BAD WHEN OL’ CLAY’S EARS BURN SO BAD A FAN HAS TO MISS A GAME BECAUSE HE DIDNT LIKE WHAT SOMEONE SAID. CANT WAIT FOR HIM TO TRY AND CHARTER ONE OF MY PARENTS PLANES @ BOEING FIELD. HE WILL BE SHOWN THE DOOR, EXCEPT, WE DONT TAKE FOLKS MONEY FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael you have proved that you are also ignorant and we are glad that losers like you don’t come to the great state of OK also
facts are you are the most depressed city

Keep Clay Bennett he fits in with the rest of you weir’d depressed
people

we simply want oklahomans out of bussiness, and our beautiful diverse state. seattle has the highest average iq of any american city! we have a coast ,two mountain ranges, desert in eastern washington, a temperate rain forest. oklahoma has nothing! other than crime and chronic obesity.

I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE FROM SEATTLE ARE SO IGNORANT
WELL MAYBE I CAN. IM READING WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT OKC. I HAVE LIVED IN OKLAHOMA FOR 50 YRS AND VISITED OKC MORE TIMES THAN I CAN REMEMBER AND NEAVER HAD ONE PROBLEM. HEY JOEY – IF THEY WERE TO PUT YOUR BRAIN ON THE EDGE OF A RAZOR BLADE IT WOULD BE LIKE PUTTING A PEA ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY !!!!!

if seattle loses a franchise to oklahoma. it will be one of the greatest tragedys in the history of american sport!

HAPPINESS IS SEEING SEATTLE IN YOU REAR VIEW MIRROR

Joey, Seattle is a great city… soon to be a great city without a professional basketball team. Maybe you should come to grips with that inevitability… it might be good for your hypertension.

Joey… quick note… if you want to argue that people from Seattle have above average I.Q.s, it would support your argument if you wrote in complete, coherent sentences.

as far as i know grammar has nothing to do with iq. here is the latest on the issue up here. steve ballmer who is second in command at microsoft and steve sinigal the founder of costco have just stepped forward to put in 150 million and are asking seattle and the state to put in an additional 150 million, to renovate key arena. which will more than likely happen. they are local and it is reasonable! now what does this mean for the situation? your boy clay’s big argument to the owners of the NBA and the courts, is that there is no movement up here. that has now been proven incorrect. the courts will not let him pull out of the lease, and the NBA will not okay a move from the 12th biggest market to the 45th largest market, in light of this latest information. clay can either stay here and bleed in the current key arena. or he can sell the club to this local group, at a profit i might add. and buy the struggling memphis club, which is for sale. also there is no historical signifcance in memphis. its also a city much like your own. so the NBA wont be losing much,if anything. and if this all works. i hope i never have to hear about oklahoma city for the rest of life. and by the way which ever club you get, you will certainly lose within 10 yrs.. even with the ford center improvements. you will need a completely new arena, very soon!!

oh, quick side note patrick. i made the tragic mistake of going to school out of state. guess where i went? STILLWATER!! go cowboys?? that explains my embarrassing grammar. i also have the misfortune of knowing that hideous state firsthand!!

JOEY; SO THAT’S YOUR PROBLEM, YOU WENT SCHOOL IN STILLWATER. GO COWBOYS MY ASS – GO SOONERS!!!!!!!

hey alan! you dont have four lane highways oklahoma!! the sooners are comin up here next year. should be a ass kickin just like the 85 orange bowl!! go dawgs!!

As a Seattle citizen, I don’t think this has anything to do with who is smarter. I just wish people would understand how Stern and Bennett have held us hostage and set un-realistic deadlines and goals. I believe OKC should get a team, but I find it hard to believe the Sonics are the best choice. Why not move a team out of a city that has shown they can’t handle an NBA team, smaller markets like Charlotte, New Orleans, Memphis, and now unfortunately Sacramento. Its just a shame that Howard Schultz of Starbucks sold out the city he made his fortune in.
