Is this thing on???
It’s been 2 1/2 months since my last post. So long that we’ve gone to a completely different look on the blog. But the goal is still the same, to provide insight, analysis and opinion. And with tonight being the big night in the NBA with one of the most talented drafts of all time getting underway shortly, I’ll be blogging throughout the entire event. So I’m firing up the old blog again. I’m excited.
A lot can happen tonight, with Kobe Bryant, Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Jermaine O’Neal, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett all being shopped in trade scenarios. My personal feeling — nothing happens with any of those names.
But this draft is deep. Very deep. Things should get interesting after the first two picks. Everyone, including myself, seems to assume that Atlanta is going to take Florida’s Al Horford at 3. But who knows what they’re going to do? They might not. They could still deal No.s 3 & 11 for a proven veteran. Most folks have Mike Conley penciled in at 4 to Memphis. But that doesn’t make sense to me because they selected Kyle Lowry last year and he’s supposed to be really good. Is Conley that much better than him? That’s the question Memphis has to be asking.
A couple of names I really like.
1) Corey Brewer — Last year it was Rudy Gay who had me salivating. I think Brewer can be something special. Don’t know why many folks, (people who matter that is — the scouts, GMs and coaches), seem to be higher on Georgetown’s Jeff Green.
2) Javaris Crittenton — He’s a mature kid from what I gathered from talking to him on Tuesday. I don’t think he’s ready to step in and lead a team at this point, but down the line he’ll be a good one.
3) Thaddeus Young — See: Crittenton, Javaris.
4) Aaron Afflalo — Don’t see how this guy isn’t a top 20 pick. Anyone who gets him after 20 should consider him a steal. I could be wrong, but I think he’s an amazing talent.
That’s it for now. There’s a video posted below of my breakdown of the draft. We shot it earlier today, as we continue developing new ways to deliver information. Check it out. Hopefully you’ll join me tonight during the draft. Should be fun.
