And they’re off…….

The presumpive candidates from the major political parties are in place and the race for the White House is sure to heat up this summer.

The 2008 election marks the first time since the 1928 election neither an incumbent president nor an incumbent vice president is running for their party’s nomination and the first time since the 1952 election that neither the incumbent President nor incumbent Vice President is a candidate in the general election.

In the three previous two-term Presidential administrations —Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton — the incumbent vice president made a run for the White House. Richard Nixon lost the 1960 election, George H. W. Bush won the 1988 election and Al Gore lost the 2000 election.

To help you make up your mind or at least give you more information on the candidates, below are several links that can help.

If elected, John McCain would be the first president born outside the 50 states. A bipartisan legal review as well as a unanimous Senate resolution indicates that though he was born in the Panama Canal Zone he is a natural-born citizen, a constitutional requirement to become president. McCain would also be the first president from Arizona. Obama would become the first president born in Hawaii and the first African American president.

The Incredible Shrinking Package

tiny_burger2.jpg

When you go shopping you expect a carton of eggs to have a dozen eggs; milk to come in a full quart, half-gallon or gallon-sized container and margarine and butter to be sold by the pound.

But the next time you reach for a food product look at the label closely. What used to be a three-pound tub of Country Crock butter is now actually 2 pounds and 13 ounces.
The former three-pound tub and the new container look alike, but the manufacturers are doing nothing wrong. They are not claiming three pounds in this case. The weight is printed there on the label.

Several manufacturers have been doing this “re-packaging” during the past few years.
Grocery shoppers have come to expect certain sizes in cans and bottles, but a check of three Edmond grocery stores found some changes in packaging.

An example of smaller packaging is found on his carton of Breyers Ice Cream.

Breyers is not the only ice cream maker repackaging its product.
