Why ‘Mile 103′?
Edmond began as a coal and water stop along the railroad and was known to workers as Mile 103. Since then Mile 103 has grown to become one of the state’s fastest growing cities.
Permit me to introduce myself. I’m John Williams, the new Edmond Outreach Reporter for the Oklahoman. This means that you and I are going to be getting to know each other better as days go by.
I’m not new to Edmond, but new to the Oklahoman. I grew up in Pauls Valley, about 65 miles south of Edmond. My wife Jane and I have lived in Edmond since the 80s. She is an elementary school teacher and our two children attended and graduated from Edmond schools.
I’ve worked in several fields over the years including radio, TV, ministry, author and journalist. I am also a graduate of Edmond’s University of Central Oklahoma.
Along with my newspaper column every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, this blog will be our “water cooler”.
This is our place to rant, rave and talk over a variety of topics and issues. Some issues will be pressing while others will be pure fun. In this blog I hope to direct you to sources of information on our discussions and I invite you to click on the comments button at the end of my posts for you to add your opinions. You can also reach me by e-mail at jwilliams@oklahoman.com. Edmond faces a lot of issues in the future and this is your place to let your voice be heard.
