Thanks for this opportunity and good luck if you can do something about the lack of sidewalks in Edmond.  In particular on 2nd Street from Vista Ave to Coltrane going East.  On the North side, you can see the path that is being made by people walking along there.  It’s obvious.  Also, it’s interesting to note the sidewalks on both sides of 2nd Street from Coltrane going East.  Someone surely got something approved as if the need was there for both sides of the street.  And they are nice wide sidewalks.

Then on 15th Street, from Bryant Ave. going East.  It’s interesting to check out the sidewalks there.  Where they start and stop.   And what side of the street they are on.   One day I saw a fellow pushing a stroller with a child in it on the lawn on the south side of 15th just before Coltrane.

One other little thing….the Liberty Fest is coming up.  It’s a fun, well-planned event.  However, I wish the Taste of Edmond event could be held on Saturday instead of Sunday.  Our family strives to keep the Sabbath Day holy by going to worship services and resting and relaxing on the Sabbath.  We do not go shopping or purchase items on Sunday.  I feel this is a religious town, but they seem to forget the Fourth Commandment.  The same with ball games for the youth, many are played on Sunday.   I guess maybe it’s just the way you choose to look at and observe that commandment.

One more thing, I noticed in The Edmond Sun the other day that they are inviting ministers from four denominations to write a column in the paper.  It would be interesting to know how they chose those particular ones.  Why not go through the phone book and give every church an opportunity.  I simply found myself thinking that.  Maybe you could suggest that.

You have a good day.  I enjoy your column.

I have been an Edmond resident since 1970 (age 5, before it was cool to live here).  Coincidentally, I was thinking of a slogan myself!

“Edmond:  Land of Perceived Entitlement.  A place dedicated to spoiled, indulged children, high-maintenance women, pious, hypocritical men……Come enjoy our luxury car and SUV choked streets, where the most self-entitled will run red lights….safely….Where we waste HOURS arguing the color of awnings and brick colors on 7-11’s……Yes, if you pass the blood test, you might be permitted to live here too!….”
Hmmm….might be time for me to move!  LOL!
Thanks for the great columns!

John, thank you so much including my little story in your column. I hope it may motivate other oldies to get out there and do it. Here are some facts about oldies that are inspiring:
The Earl of Hapsburg was 90 when he began writing a 20-volume revision of English law.
Goethe wrote Faust at 82.
Galileo made his most important discovery at 73.
At 65, Winston Churchill became prime minister of Britain and entered the devastating war with Hitler.
At 72, Golda Meir became prime minister of Israel.
at 80, Grandma Moses had her first full-scale art exhibit.
At 81, Benjamin Franklin mediated the development of the U.S. Constitution.

Put that in your time machine and see what it shows you. You may have your greatest years ahead of you.

Interesting article this morning.  I don’t agree that Edmond needs light rail or a semi-pro soccer team – those seem like pretty low prioritiy, high cost/low return items.

On the other hand, I’d offer a simple suggestion to attract interest, visitors, and boomerangs (i.e., people who have left the area that Edmond would like to encourage to return).  “What Edmond needs” are a couple web cams.  See the links below for just a few examples, and use your imagination for Edmond.

Between the city, UCO, the CVB, businesses, and other entities, it would be pretty easy and inexpensive to boost the city’s exposure and generate positive returns for the community in many ways.

Thoughts?
