More Wild Animal Sightings In East Edmond

I received several calls and e-mails regarding my column on possible mountain lion sightings in east Edmond.

One caller said she has seen bobcats and cougars in the area over the past 20 years. I don’t know if I could tell offhand what type of animal would be roaming around out there, but if it’s of any size I think I would turn the other way.

Jason Fritts sent along three photos he took back in October 2007 of a rather large cat near his home near Covell between Douglas and Midwest Boulevard.

“I was told by several hunters that they thought this cat was a large bobcat. It could be but in the video that I took it stretches out and is a healthy cat. It left and I haven’t seen anything that big lately other than some more bobcat type sized cats,” he said.

Fritts said he has seen more than one animal hanging in trees. “I think it might be a mom and her cubs,” he said.

You can see Fritts’ photos below. Click on each photo to make it larger.

A caller suggested global warming is to blame for upsetting the balance of nature and causing a proliferation of bobcat, cougar, mountain lion, take your pick sightings. I think the economy has hit the animal kingdom and many of there lairs have been foreclosed.

Personally I can’t wait until we have our first Sasquatch sighting.

In the late 80’s when I lived at Dover, A Florida Panther jumped 2 four foot tall fences just 20 feet in front of me as I was walking to check the water level in the cow tank.
A couple of days later my brother was cutting green chop on one of our farms 1/2 mile away and it jumped out of the crop and grabbed a bird. A few days later, the people (Thompson) saw it on their front porch across the road from where my brother saw it. Then neighbore (Crosswhite and McCormick) again saw it. A monthe later our mail carrier (Horn) saw it by neighbors who also saw it (Mitchell). Mr. Thompson said one was run over and killes a few miles away by Six Mile Bar west of Crescent but although all this happened, Game Ranger Witt denied they were in the area.

That appears to be a large healthy bobcat. Not a mountain lion. They do roam central Ok. By the way there IS a sasquatch sighting on record for Edmond. Ha

These appear to be bobcats, big and healthy, but not cougar/mountain lions. The head of a bobcat has pointy ears, hair protruding from cheeks, and short tails, as are clearly visible on the cubs/kitten. Cougars/mountain lions have a long tail and rounded ears and face.

Nice video…100% sure they are Bob cats. White on back of the ears indicative of bob cat, short stubby tails and the beard all say Bob, definitely not a mountain lion.
If she continues to stay in your back yard, I would encourage her to leave, loud noise, lights etc.
Check out my site, nice video of mounatin lion and on forum pages you will find lot’s of Bob cat pictures.

One would hope people have enough sense not to try and make pets out of them just because they’re cute.

I saw legs of an animal hiding away from traffic on the kilpatrick turpike south side close to the I 35 exit. The paws were large like a lion and very muscular back. Looks like it was interested in a freshdog roadkill. It was freaky to see a wild animal resembling a lion or cougar . It was taller than a bobcat from where I saw it. Now reading these blogs I see that it has been a common occurrence to see these wild cats on this part of town ie east edmond !!! This was this evening during day light !
