Take A Day To Clean Out The Fridge
I’ve been rather busy this week, so I hope you will forgive me for not sending a card for National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day.
Whoever the people are who thinks up these events, they have designated Friday to be the annual day to clean out the fridge.
I wouldn’t have given it much thought except I was in an Edmond appliance store the other day marveling at the newest line of refrigerators. There they stood, packed with features such as an interior water dispenser; crushed icemaker; slide-out, spill-proof glass shelves; and a TV on the door.
The price tag persuaded me to wait, so in the meantime I thought I would just clean out the fridge at home. I don’t want to say I had some old items in there, but I found a cabbage wearing what looked like a toupee. I found a bottle of steak sauce that was so old it was labeled Heinz 52.
I didn’t know ham could turn to liquid. Even the box of baking soda was waving a white flag.
Some of you will face the mountain of cleaning out your work place refrigerator. To you brave souls, or those who got the short straw, we salute you. Bless you as you make your way through the maze of pizza boxes from last year’s Christmas party and Tupperware that has been in there only God knows how long.
One refrigerator magnet sums up the tales of corporate fuzzy and fermented foods: “If a messy kitchen is a happy kitchen, this place is delirious.”
