And they’re off…….

The presumpive candidates from the major political parties are in place and the race for the White House is sure to heat up this summer.

The 2008 election marks the first time since the 1928 election neither an incumbent president nor an incumbent vice president is running for their party’s nomination and the first time since the 1952 election that neither the incumbent President nor incumbent Vice President is a candidate in the general election.

In the three previous two-term Presidential administrations —Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton — the incumbent vice president made a run for the White House. Richard Nixon lost the 1960 election, George H. W. Bush won the 1988 election and Al Gore lost the 2000 election.

To help you make up your mind or at least give you more information on the candidates, below are several links that can help.

If elected, John McCain would be the first president born outside the 50 states. A bipartisan legal review as well as a unanimous Senate resolution indicates that though he was born in the Panama Canal Zone he is a natural-born citizen, a constitutional requirement to become president. McCain would also be the first president from Arizona. Obama would become the first president born in Hawaii and the first African American president.
