Robin Roberts starts leave early, gets emotional send-off from Good Morning America viewers
Good Morning America host Robin Roberts announced Thursday morning that she would be taking her medical leave one day early due to her mother’s poor health.
USA Today reports that Roberts was scheduled to start her medical leave Friday for myelodysplastic syndrome and to eventually undergo a bone marrow transplant; however, she left one day earlier to fly home to Mississippi to be with her mother.
“Roberts said her mom’s health issues have ‘gotten to a point’ where she and sister, Sally-Ann, who is her bone marrow donor, ‘need to get home.”
Viewers wished the GMA host best wishes on her travels and health on Twitter, using the hashtag #TeamRobin. The show was an emotional send-off for Roberts, but she said she wouldn’t miss an episode while she’s gone. She said she’ll be watching the show “in my jammies,” according to USA Today.
