Hair Prayer
Here’s a poem I wrote some time ago that goes pretty well with my last blog entry, ”The Chess Match.”
Hair Prayer
Hair, my hair,
it used to grow
most everywhere,
like there, and there!
But now, my hair,
is something that
is fairly rare.
Alas, despair!
Ah yes, my hair,
is disappearing
in the air.
I swear. I swear!
My share of hair
is best described
as thin and spare
without the flair.
And worse, new hair
is popping up
where once was bare
and that’s not fair!
And so my prayer
if you don’t mind,
as if you care,
is that the hair
this clown must wear
will somehow take
my heartfelt dare
and then repair
and that whene’er
I walk about
that you won’t stare
at my bad hair.

As a T4 cancer survivor I have been down the same road you traveled. The thoughts the feels were part of my life too. Our trades are different, but life mirrors each other is someways. Wife is a teacher in a private school (lower pay) kids are 12 and 14. My worries matched yours. I have only been cancer free for 2 years now. I am a M.D. Anderson patient also 10th flr main bldg. I had a Squamous cell carcinoma a 2.5 inch tumor in the nasal passage. You know the battle having fought it once before. Stay strong and you are not alone in your fight.
Thanks for sharing your life with others that may face a cancer one day. You give others hope. part of my story not updated with the last scan information

Thank you for sharing your journey. Our lives are so busy we lose focus on what is really important, like family. I hope others will read your blogs and watch your videos and realize how important it is to cherish the little things everyday. Thank you for reminding me.
Jim,
Thank you for sharing your journey with others. You do not know how much this helps those who have been down a similar road with a loved one. I admire you for your bravery and transparency in sharing your emotions as you go through this battle and for the passion you have in getting the most out of “daily” life. You’re truly a man’s man!
Jim –
Love the hair poem and am going to share it with my friend’s 12-yr-old daughter who is going through her 5th round of chemo for leukemia right now. She has a fabulous attitude (was excited when she found out that her bloodtype was B+ – so she could “be positive!”) – I know she’ll enjoy and relate to the poem. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for documenting your journey. It puts ‘life’ in perspective. There are so many petty, things in life, we worry and fret over. I want to take your experience, let it sink in and apply it daily. I look forward to Sunday to read more about you and your family. Thanks
