‘The Walking Dead’ update: We’ll see Merle (and his new hand thing), and a new take on the prison story arc

Here, let me lend you a hand with that.

Merle Dixon will return in season three of “The Walking Dead,” and the show’s creators said fans of the comics shouldn’t expect to see everything they saw in the comic book.

In an interview with TV Guide, Robert Kirkman and Glen Mazzara discussed what fans can bank on with the show’s third season, set to debut in October. Mazzara had this to say:

I guarantee people will say the show is moving too fast and it’s too packed. ”There’s too much going on, I can’t take it, it’s too exciting!’ Trust me, I know people are going to say that because we are really hitting the ground running and we expect the audience to keep up.

And here’s what Kirkman said about the show’s future:

The TV show is operating at its best when halfway through watching [a scene] you realize that we’re doing a scene from the comic. I like it when those things catch you by surprise. By the 100th episode, the show will really be in a different place, assuming we get that far, but there will always be different story lines from the comics that work their way back in.

Word. Definitely word. I like that I won’t be able to predict everything that happens, since I’ve read every issue of “The Walking Dead” there is. I’m all about branching out to different ideas and expanding on different storylines. It could make for a richer experience.
