Enter The Governor: Popular villain in ‘The Walking Dead’ comic coming to TV

Can he pull it off?

The Walking Dead” comic book has a great story arc involving a prison and our beloved group of survivors. During that arc, a villain called The Governor enters the scene and turns Rick and everyone’s life upside down.

I’ve been waiting for this story arc to hit the small screen, and today’s casting of The Governor has me super excited for season three of the popular TV show.

David Morrissey, best known for the mini-series “State of Play,” has been cast to play this guy:

He does not mess around.

The Governor is one of my favorite villains in a comic series. He’s completely despicable and I hated him. Absolutely hated him. But I loved the character for it!

Author Robert Kirkman has rough times with characterization sometimes, but he nailed it with The Governor. The character in the comic is absolutely bonkers, and some of the scenes he’s in are so far-fetched, I doubt we’ll see them played out on television.

Still, knowing that season three will most likely include the prison story arc excites me. The show might differ, but as long as the core elements are there, I’ll be happy.

This casting also destroys the theory that Merle Dixon (played by the fantastic Michael Rooker) would become The Governor. Since The Gov is missing an arm, and Merle is missing part of an arm, fans began putting the pieces together and hypothesized Merle would return with a vengeance.

I think we’ll see Merle again, and maybe he’s working with The Governor. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Bring on season three!
