That's a wonderful idea Nancy! I'll pass it along to the Village city manager Bruce Stone. Bless is heart - he's always up for hearing a good idea but then there's the process to go through for the idea and also any costs associated. But doggone it, wouldn't that be awesome!

I'm taking a permaculture class online, and some communities are creating "rain gardens", which in simplistic terms, provides plants & shrubs by the flooding areas, which actually absorb the flooding water. In North Carolina, it reduced one street's water from rainfall by 80%, and the community now wants more. They eliminated just 4 parking spots on the street.

[...] Village street flooding goes back and continues I live in the Village, Oklahoma. It’s a small municipality located within northwest Oklahoma City around May, Penn, Hefner, Britton. It was raining recently while I was driving down Britton east to Broadway extension. Water was lining up in the streets. I drove right through it. I had no other choice. The water drenched my car to the point where I could not see anything for a few seconds. It was kind of scary but it was only seconds. I was by the infamous drainage ditch by Village Drive, aka: The Village River to locals. It made me wonder, why is the Village prone to street flooding. I went into their history records. It’s a bit storied but not uncommon with new developments – new, as in 1950s new. Picking up in the mid-1950s, here’s a portion from the Village, OK History web page, chapter 13 …. more online. Share this:TwitterFacebookLike this:LikeBe the first to like this post.
Your comments are interesting but I would like to draw your attention to an article written by Chris Kahn that was published in the OKLAHOMAN Business section, page 1C on December 31, 2011.
The headline reads "Fuels are top U.S. Export".

I am sure you are aware of this article and was just wondering if you took this information into consideration when mentioning higher gas prices at the pump in your blog.
It does seem price hikes are everywhere we go with little to no consideration to how people, many of whom are on fixed incomes or just trying to keep their head above water on frozen incomes (or no income at all due to a layoff) are able to afford anything.

I enjoy reading your blogs and look forward to many more.
Thank you.

Entering I40 going east from Penn is not a problem as it dumps you directly on to the Interstate. I'm glad you warned me about trying to get on going west as I haven't tried that yet.
