Our team didn’t make it to the VH1 show but that’s alright. There is always next year. It’s not that we didn’t pass the test it’s that I feel the picking of teams was an arbitrary process. Out of about a hundred applicants in our session only one team made it. It just so happened they were a team of attractive moms. I could tell they were mom’s because they had that ‘look’ and I could tell they were attractive because I have eyes.
So this last Friday night I went out with a couple of friends of mine for the first time in over six months. We went to Bricktown and I’m happy to report, nothing has changed. We went to a club whose name rhymes with “Curely Ninful”. I was reminded of how much I just don’t understand the club culture. The procession of the shallow for the good of the shallow. The place was full of over gelled fellas looking for under educated gals.
Because I was at a club Friday, I feel it best to weigh in on the whole “scene”. Keep in mind it’s just an opinion. And by opinion I mean fact. If you are going to a club to hang out with your friends and not to engage in the pursuit of the promiscuous, more power to you. I can understand socializing once every few weeks. That’s cool. However to be out every weekend at the same place just makes you a younger and slightly hipper version of that old guy you make fun of at a bar. The bad thing is that you are that guy only younger and with less regrets. Keep the club life up and you’ll have plenty of regrets though.
I’m not damning going out but rather that being one’s reason for being. This place was full of career party people. People who work all week just to spend their wages on the weekends in an attempt to woo ladies with an alcoholic beverage or nine. If a woman is wooed with a drink there’s a good bet her standards are just as low as yours so more power to you I suppose.
Speaking of women who have endured very public tragedies.
Britney Spears looks like she has taken the baton of craziness inadvertently passed to her by the late Anna Nicole. I don’t think the whole Britney thing is funny. I think it’s sad. We’re talking about a woman who has just gone through the most public of divorces and has two small children. I know that she’s not the first to get a divorce and end up a single mom. I know that there are millions of women who have gone through troubles in their life and have persevered through difficult happenings. However I think that people are waiting to see how she fails next and we’ll probably see it soon.
This girl is in serious need of some real help and it appears no one cares. I’m not saying we should be any more or less concerned for her than anyone else going through problems but her public life looks like it may be leading to a very public death. I guess I’m just kind of tired of the world appearing to be more interested in what a hurting pop star does with her life so we are distracted from our own lives. I’m pretty sure we have better things to do than watch a girl go through a nervous breakdown. Than again you might be into that. I’m talking to you paparazzi.
I will say this. I hope Britney’s powers weren’t in her hair like some sort of pop version of Sampson. If that’s the case it might be a while before we get some more catchy but horrible music from her.
Now that I’ve alienated club goers and people with a vested interest in someone they’ll never meet, let’s talk about something good!
The Cowboy Ninja Show premiers tomorrow on www.newsok.com. This is the first daily podcast produced by the Oklahoman. It involves myself and actor/musician/snappy dresser Matthew Brown. It’s a show that will provide you with all the laughs and useless information you could possibly ask for. Well as much can fit into ten minutes at least. It’s free and available on iTunes so fire up the iPod and get ready to partake in the genius that is The Cowboy Ninja Show.
RIGHT NOW
SONG - Toxic by Britney Spears Federline Cougar Mellencamp - Like it or not this song has made it’s way into my brain. Mostly because I clicked on it to listen to.
MOVIE - The Departed - I watched this movie twice in two days. It is amazing and how no one is talking about Matt Damon’s performance in it is beyond me. Everyone in that movie is amazing and if Scorcese doesn’t get his academy award I’ll….well…..I dunno.
MYSPACE SITE - Check out www.myspace.com/cowboyninjas and become our friend. We need all the friends we can get so when we’re famous you’ll care when we go crazy.
Holla.

February 20th IHOP is going to give you a free short stack of pancakes and all they are asking in return is that you make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network. I commend IHOP for appealing to American’s gluttonous but giving nature. Thanks for making me aware Craig.
