Why does the staff at the Oklahoman uniformly believe that the Big 12 is ready to fold? And why do you think they will carry on with eight or nine teams. OU wants ten teams and no more. I think that is a mistake for the Big 12. They need to expand, not minimize. To be happy with ten teams is just ridiculous, especially if one WANTS to continue the Big 12. They need to expand and do some aggressive raiding like their nieghboring conferences have done. SMU is begging the Big AD to let them in. Literally begging. SO take them. Don;t stop there. COurt BYU and Air Force. I know why OU resists expansion. They don't have to play an extra, potentially eliminating championship game, whereas in a ten team conference they can win it outright, without an extra game. OU's thinking is selfisn and wrong. If they really want to keep the BIg 12 going, they'll look beyond their own selfishness and stop trying to shut down all efforts at expanding, just so they don't have to play an additional game. Speaking of expansion, It's all over the internet this week, and on ESPN Sportscenter that SMU is openly lobbying to join the Big 12. Yet not even one mention of it, either on sport talk radio (WWLS), TV or on the Oklahoman website. Not even a brief mention in passing. I hope the BIg 12 survives. And beyond that, I hope it expands, in order to survive. Make it a REAL "twelve." The conference needs more teams, not less, and it also needs a Championship game, inspite of OU's attempts to minimize the conference. I'm a bie-dard lifelong SOoner fan, but this time, OU is just wrong on lobbying to keep it at ten. All that aside, I believe the Big 12 will survive without A&M for the short term. Long term will depend on a more aggressive and forward-thinking AD than Beebe;someone who can tell OU that the Championship game is necessary and good for the conference and that expansion is good and necessary for the conference, and to suck it up and get in lock-step for the sake of the conference.

Stoop's isn't going anywhere. He's got a bird nest on the ground. Don't chastise A&M for something you don't have the courage to do. If you can't run with the big dog's, stay on the porch. If you are afraid of the "academic culture" in the SEC, as one writer wrote, go to the PAC 12 or Ivy League. Only thing, Okies have not one thing in common with people on the left coast.
