The rule should be applied…………….as long as it it a rule. The PGA should change it ASAP, however. It will simply encourage fewer pros to play in the pre-tournament pro-ams, if they are in danger of losing their livelihood – even for only one tournament – should a situation like Furyk’s occur again.

The PGA Tour has actually already changed the rule, deciding that players will not be accessed a one-tournament penalty for missing a pro-am. As a result, Jim Furyk is the only player who will suffer a penalty by this rule. Another indication that the rules in golf need to apply to everyone equally. — Jenni

Man made rule that has nothing whatsoever to do with the game of actually playing golf. Grounding a club in a hazard at least relates to the actual game of golf. Jim getting “grounded” by his parents for this is just plain silly and shows the golf intelligencia have lost the real plot.

Where was his caddy? No wake up call at hotel? No second alarm?
Most of us could get fired for this! Should have gone to bed much earlier to have plenty of time for practice & breakfast. I think the, The way rule is is too strict. Just give a couple stoke penalty and get moved to the last tee time!

So it matters where you are in the standings whether the rules are applied or not?

That’s like saying its okay for the rich to go free or go to country club prisons when they committ crimes, while the poor get maximum sentences and hard time!

Where’s the equity in that. The only inequity is allowing Furyk to get a pass on the rules.

Basic rule. Be at the tee for your tee time. Get there within 5 minutes and its only a 2-stroke penalty. Over 5-mins its a DQ.

When the rules of any game out-weigh the game itself there needs to be a change! The rules are so massive that MOST 95% or more of the golfers either don’t know them or are unsure of their intent or extent. How sad Golf is now taking on the NASCAR mentality with the; “Who’s going to wreck this week” Instead of watching the great DRIVING

Azinger building a stance in a hazard trying to kick enough boulders around so as not to fall?
Yet Colin Montgomery gets an IV during the 99 US Open at Oakmont?

Golf rules need to make sense and for a game created in a pasture…25 rules as proposed by the now defunct American Golf Association (early 70′s)should be sufficient!
