I think it would be long over due. I think a playoff system is necessary if you're ever to come up with a "true" collegiate champion. Thing is, a legitimate title game would be huge. It could approach advertising and ticket revenues generated by the Super Bowl. The BCS is still somewhat of a subjective way to determine a national champion.

Can someone please explain the difference between the BCS in football and the NCAA Basketball Tournament Selection Committee? Both select teams based on some kind of criteria but the Selection Committee is even more biased by seeding the teams. At least the BCS picks them in order of the criteria. Granted, in basketbal every conference get at least 1 invite for the conference championship but that is because it is a NCAA run tournament, the BCS is voluntary and by invition only - kind of like the National Invitation Tourney, but no one is suing them.

Kyle Whittingham is not exactly an unbiased observer. As his school has just abandoned its partners in the Mountain West, and has tried to use the federal government to put pressure on the BCS, he might have a vested interest in the advent of super-conferences and the end of the BCS.
