Thunder reward, endear fans with ticket prices
The Thunder could’ve really socked it to its fans.
In the midst of an amazing turnaround, the NBA club rolled out its season-ticket plan for next season a little earlier this week. The plan? Not to increase the price of the tickets.
That’s right. Even though the product has improved and the tickets have become more sought after than ever, the Thunder isn’t going to charge any extra for season tickets. It isn’t going to ask for one cent more than it did a year ago when the team was in the midst of a 23-win season.
It seems hard to believe, but the truth is, it’s just one more thing that will endear Oklahoma City to this franchise.
Times are tough, and most Thunder fans feel that. Having season tickets is a luxury for most. It takes budgeting to afford them. It takes sacrifice of other things.
So, it’s nice for fans to know that they don’t have to pay any more for those tickets next year.
But hey, remember that times are tough everywhere, and that includes the Thunder franchise itself. Revenues probably aren’t for the team what they could be. And lest we not forget, this is a team that is hoping to sign Kevin Durant and Jeff Green to long-term contracts during this next offseason.
Think the Thunder front-office brass wouldn’t mind having a few extra dollars lying around to get that deal done?
The Thunder had more reasons to raise ticket prices than it did to keep them the same, but in the end, the franchise chose to not to raise the rates. In doing so, they reward the fans. They endear the fans.
The Thunder can now worry about locking up Durant and Green for the long term. The fans are already taken care of.
