Dez Bryant: ‘Forever a Cowboy’

Dez Bryant had the best of times at Oklahoma State.

The worst of times, too.

The former Cowboy wide receiver was investigated, then suspended by the NCAA last season after he lied to an NCAA investigator. That caused the messy and unceremonious end to his college career; Bryant declared himself eligible for the NFL Draft the day that his final NCAA appeal was denied.

So, how does Bryant look at his time in Stillwater?

“To be honest, me coming to Oklahoma State, that’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” Bryant said in a telephone interview Friday after he met with the media in Tampa, Fla., where he is now training.

“I enjoyed being there. I enjoyed being around the fans. I enjoyed being around the little kids. It’s just a nice place to be.”

It’s a place he intends to return, too.

“I know I’m going to go back” and visit, he said. “I’m going to make my presence known.

“I’m going to forever be a Cowboy.”

Bryant is expected to be one of the top picks in this spring’s draft, and wherever he ends up playing, he will proudly list his alma mater as OSU.

“Always,” he said. “That’s not going to change.”

Want to know why Dez Bryant held a press conference in Florida, then spoke with me for more than 25 minutes Friday afternoon? Want to know why he opened up about what happened at Oklahoma State and with NCAA investigators? Then you won’t want to miss my column Saturday in The Oklahoman and on NewsOK.com.

Dez will be accepted by the Cowboy nation on the same day Jenni is.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid Brian is right. But I will still be a fan and will hang both jerseys (#1 AND #8) up for display. Go Pokes!

Jenni’s OK by me. Unfortunately, crap like “Cowboy nation” isn’t.

No sirs, OSU fans do not hold ill will toward Dez at all. Dez Bryant will be welcomed anytime he wants to come to Stillwater.

He’ll never step foot this side of Stillwater again.

Brian, you can speak for yourself. Dez will always be wecomed by OSU fans. What he did for OSU football while he was here was historic. He is a 20 year old who made a mistake. Get over yourself.

I hope nothing but the best for Dez going forward and look forward to him coming back and visiting OSU in the near future.

Good luck Dez and Go Pokes!!!

Liar

Dez Bryant is the best player I have seen play in person and as an added bonus, he’s an OSU Cowboy!

Dez, we OSU fans were confused by some of the decisions you made but we will always love and appreciate the memories you gave us with your play inside Boone Pickens Stadium.

Once a Cowboy, ALWAYS a Cowboy.

Now, go tear it up in the big leagues and never forget your roots.

Go Dez!
GO POKES!

While I cheered Dez and his contributions to the Cowboys over the years, I think he should take a cue from Hart Lee Dykes and just move on with his life. He is little better than Terrell Owens and Neon Deion in his level of narcissism. Bryant’s life chapter as a Cowboy is now closed, let the record books show an asterisk.

I think you got a raw deal, Dez. We don’t know the whole story, and maybe we never will, but it seems to me like you were used in many ways. Deion used you. Your agent kind of set you up. The NCAA used you as an example. Hopefully you learned from this whole experience and it will prove invaluable as you go to the pros and make lots of money. You’ll have lots of hanger-ons who will try to use you again. Don’t let them. Be a strong person who’s friends are real friends, and don’t just like you for your money and celebrity-status.

Dez will always be a Cowboy and always welcome at OSU. Yes, he made a mistake, but I’ve got to say I did dumber things when I was on campus, just without the spotlight.

Matt, best player you’ve ever seen???? I guess you never went to the OU/OSU games when Adrien Petersen ran all over you guys, huh? Too bad, because you missed one of the greatest players ever.

Nunya:
I hate to point this out, but if you’re gonna smack talk, you might want to spell your guy’s name right. You got his first and last name wrong.
It’s Adrian Peterson.
Just sayin’.
Jenni

With his grade point average, he probably will be a cowboy forever, but one thing he won’t be is an OSU graduate.

Dez is, and always will be, a favorite player at OSU. I wish him nothing but success in the NFL and hope he does come back and receive a standing ovation from the OSU family. Go Pokes! Go Dez!

Nunya, if you can’t spell his name right, he must not be that great.

Dez will always be welcome back to stillwater by me. He made a mistake by lying, who hasn’t made a mistake? Dez is a Cowboy for life

Dez will always be welcome back to OSU …

I was fortunate enough to watch Dez play from the 3rd row during the 2008 season. He is was always the first player out of the tunnel, was the most enthusiatic on the field and also the most talented player on the field. He is just one of those players that is hard to keep your eyes off when he is on the field. His love of football and for OSU was always apparent. I wish him well in the NFL and all of his other endeavors and he is definitely welcome to Stillwater any time.

Nunya, I guess you never saw Barry Sanders run.

Dez told a lie to try to protect OSU since he thought the visitation in Dallas could cause a penalty. If he told the truth, I believe no penalty would have incurred. While Dez was eligible and playing, as I understand, he was a model student. Most OSU fans would welcome him back to campus.

Dez is a phenom. Everyone makes mistakes. Anyone that says anything bad about this KID is an idiot. He made OSU better and I wish him well in the NFL. Dez got a harsh deal from the crooked NCAA. He didn’t deserve the whole season supspension. Whatever, USC would never get that or Tennesee, Its all because of that OSU baseball deal that the NCAA was getting back at the university for. 9-4 was still a great season.

Yes, a cowboy with all hat and no cattle. …LOL…that was an expensive lunch he had with neon deion

To me the whole situation with Dez Bryant is more of a black eye on the NCAA than on him. Why were they questioning him about a non-violation in the first place other than to intentionally try to put him in a compromising position. Yes, he shouldn’t have lied but let’s not let the National Communists Against Athletes off the hook without pointing the finger at them in this situation. The whole thing wouldn’t have happened if that OSU baseball player wouldn’t have successfully sued the NCAA. This was payback, plain and simple.

Someone needs to rein in the NCAA. This was the stupidest mistake I’ve ever seen them make in my life! I think it’s disgusting and unfair for a KID to be so intimidated about eating with a “pro” athlete that he feels he has to lie about it to protect his university. Yes, he made a mistake… but let he who is w/o sin cast the first stone. Dez, you are a TOP NOTCH young man. I admire your trying to protect OSU. You did the wrong thing for the right reason & then you had to pay the price. As far as I’m concerned, you ARE a COWBOY FOREVER!! May the Lord richly bless you as you move down life’s path… and the doors at OSU will always be open to you!

Sorry it happened to Dez and us. That brings up my point of boosters and all the other stuff. If they wanna give an athlete gifts so be it. You people think just because they are football stars at a division one college they need nothing. Some of us come into college with absolutely nothing, can’t get a job, so whats wrong with a gift from someone more fortunate. They are gonna do it anyways!!!!
