Man-ny of the People

I’m sure I’m going to grow to hate Manny Mania over the next couple days. But right now, I’m loving Man Ram; he flew Southwest.

Southwest!

I’ve come to discover that you either love Southwest Airlines or you’re wrong. The low-cost airline is a staple if you’re flying in and out of Oklahoma City. Sure, you have to make about half a dozen connections to get anywhere, but out of our fair city, that’s the case no matter what airline you fly. And frankly, Southwest is the best.

Apparently, Manny Ramirez knows that, too.

According to the media horde covering Ramirez’s minor-league assignment in Albuquerque, he made his return to baseball via Southwest. The steroid-suspended star arrived in The Buque — as the locals call it — Monday. Third row. Middle seat.

Wait. Third row? Middle seat?

Manny, Manny, Manny. Everyone knows the middle seat is the worst, but hey, if you find it necessary to sit between some of your people to fend off folks, you need to know that the exit row is where the leg room is. You’ve gotta go for the exit row. Heck, reports are that you were allowed to get on the plane 15 minutes before everyone else. You should’ve beelined for the exit row.

Next time, right?

Perhaps this suspension has opened Manny to things that most normal people enjoy. First, Southwest. Next, dinner at Chili’s, trips to water parks and Saturdays at Wal-Mart.

I’m sure if Manny does any of those things over the next couple weeks, we’ll know about it. The media covering him in Albuquerque is already nearing ridiculous levels, and Ramirez has only been there for a couple days. ESPN reported that Manny had pasta Tuesday afternoon. Later, it updated the report — “It was spaghetti.”

Gotta tell you — I can’t wait to hear what he eats today. Chicken? Steak? How’s it prepared? What’s on the side? If someone knows, I’m sure we’ll hear about it.

Truth is, this Manny Mania is going to get old. How could it not? But for now, it’s tough to hate when it gives us the craziest news of all time — Manny flies Southwest.
