Greetings, sports fans. Long time, no blog.
Took some time off last week, and even though I ventured outside Oklahoma County only once, it was exactly the thing I needed to recharge. So, feeling energized, I offer you a smorgasbord of thoughts on the latest goings on in sports:
1. The New York Post is reporting today that the BCS system might be scrapped as early as 2011 in favor of a four-team college football playoff. Apparently, conference and television leaders think it’s might just be a good idea.
A playoff system? In college football? Wow, I’m sure glad they thought of that …
But seriously, how many of us have been ranting and raving about a playoff for the past decade? What exactly did it take to make the front-office brass sit up and take notice? Well, no surprise here, but apparently, they see the potential for a big payout for a playoff.
Really? Big money? You mean, like, the NCAA tournament in basketball?
Obviously, we are seeing genius in action.
2. To all of those people who e-mailed me last month telling me I was all wrong for even suggesting something might be amiss with the Oklahoma State men’s basketball program, I haven’t heard from one of you since news of Marcus Dove’s arrest and suspension surfaced.
I wish I would’ve been wrong, but this is more evidence that something is wrong with the Cowboys. If you’re really an OSU fan, you have to hope like heck they get it figured out because this is a team with tons of potential.
3. Loved the top 100 sporting events in Oklahoma history that ran in the Sunday Oklahoman. I didn’t even know about some of the events. How about Bob Kurland vs. George Mikan in an NCAA champion vs. NIT champion game back in the day? That was some good stuff.
4. Thoughts and prayers go out to Artrell Woods. The OSU receiver is making quite the recovery after injuring his back last week in a freak weight room accident. He even posted a message on a Cowboy fan message board earlier this week.

OK so there may be a problem with the people involved in OSU”s program. But many of the reasons you gave to support your theory were wrong.
You implied Curry was leaving OSU to get away from the troubles there. JamesOn got drafted. Wrong on that one.
You implied (through the context of the entire article) that Troy Gillenwater de-committed because he didn’t want to have to deal with the atmosphere at OSU. Now we know it was because he will have an extremely hard time qualifying academically. Wrong again.
You may be right (and probably are) that something is wrong with the people involved in the OSU program. But many of the reason you gave to support this theory have turned out to be wrong.
That leads me to believe you insinuated too much of the OSU scenario with problems, that you “lucked” into being “right”.
Also Chris collin’s was not OSU’s leading tackler at the time of his injury as you reported on 7/22/07. He was OSU’s second-leading tackler.

I’ll bite. Two of your 4 resons were bogus, as I stated in my email (JamesOn and Gillenwater) and were related to nothing. That fact that Dove made a bad personal decision has nothing to do with BB. I guess since you have never had a son, you wouldn’t understand. One bad decision does not make a bad person or team. But that is what you journalists are about, place blame on someone for everything.
You really don’t know sports, that is obvious. So take your “little victory” based on Dove’s bad judgement and smile about it. Maybe you can write another excellent piece of journalism soon.

I am not one of the OSU fans that emailed you last month after your ridiculously negative article about the OSU basketball program where you took unrelated and some bogus events and came to conclusions that something was amiss in the whole program. I didn’t read your article, even though my husband and I have been subscribers to The Oklahoman for over 30 years, because neither my husband nor I have read the Sports section in years, since we realized the bias of the sports writers, and we don’t read your blogs. I read it on an OSU sports board, and I felt I must respond. I am a proud alumnus of OSU, a teacher in the state of Oklahoma for 30 years, and I am sick of the negative slant taken by the Oklahoman toward most things OSU. Marcus Dove made a terrible decision when he got behind the wheel of the car when he was drunk, but that is NOT confirmation that the basketball program is spirally downward as you claimed. It seems you wish it to be true, and you’d like to convince as many people as possible by your writing. Instead of continuing to hammer about the past of Chris Collins many times over, why not wait until there are new developments of the court to report? What happened the night of his prom is not news: it happened over 3 years ago. Leave the kid alone until you have something new to report.

hey jenni. i’m sorry but you have no credibility when it comes to osu athletics. you are a hack working for the gaylord rag newspaper and are oviously biased and lazy with your reporting . Do your research girl. I think the National Enquirer may be hiring.
Yes it’s true some young people do make bad decisions, i certainly did. your homerism is evident. Look in your own back yard. I haven’t read your resume but i assume you went to college. Did you ever have a little too much fun and possibly do something you shouldn’t have. Thank goodness i live in tulsa where i can subscribe to the tulsa world.
