Movie Review: “Mother” delivers thrills on many levels
Mom knows best, but that advice can sometimes be dead wrong.
The Korean film “Mother” serves as an example.
The movie begins as a simple tale in which Kim Hye-ja plays a poor woman, known only as Mother, who works in an herbal shop and cares about her twentysomething son Joon Yoon-do (Won Bin) more than anything. He’s all she has in the world, and the duo share everything from dinner to the only bed in their dwelling.
But things don’t stay static for long, and that’s because Joon is no ordinary son. He takes stupid to a high art, walking home alone one night in a drunken daze, following a pretty girl as if he’s Alice heading to Wonderland. After a failed pick-up attempt, Joon makes it home.
The next morning, the girl who got away is found dead. Her body hangs over the ledge of a rooftop, and the police accuse Joon of the murder.

PHOTO SLIDESHOW: Sherree Chamberlain Band @ The Paseo Srts Festival
OKC singer/songwriter Sherree Chamberlain visited the Paseo District on Monday to play a stunning set under the summer sun.
If you missed Sherree’s set then it looks like you’ll have to wait a while before any shows, but her Static episode is worth checking out.
PHOTO SLIDESHOW: Paseo Arts Festival
I took a couple shots of the Paseo Arts Festival on Monday.
The above shots are of the spin art station.
ALSO, I would like to declare the Paseo District the people watching capitol of Oklahoma.
VIDEO: Rocklahomans of Rocklahoma
This weekend was Rocklahoma and photo intern Miranda Grubbs was up for a video adventure.
We shot several “live portraits” and created a peak into what sort of people drive all the way to Pryor when the sun is melting mailboxes becuase it’s so unnecessarily toasty outside.
Here’s the inspiration for the video.
CHECK OUT Matt Carney’s blog post below for some insight into the story we wrote for print.
Dfest update: Colourmusic kickoff party
Armed with a stage full of streamers and a surprsingly scuzzy sound, Colourmusic took stage at Tulsa’s Blank Slate. This show kicked off Dfest and it wasn’t a dissapointment. The venue was packed as Nic, Ryan and Colin were joined by Bryan Thompson of Mayola. Colin said it was freezing two hours before he started playing, but that was not the case once the men started playing. Pumping fists and soul-pounding guitar noise ensued.

Colourmusic at Blank Slate
George Lang and I caught Colourmusic before its show for an interview. Make sure to keep your eyes on newsok.com for that video and plenty more we plan on making. My secret weapon to approaching all these artists is…
