Meet the Interns

Ashley McGee:

Ashley McKee, a Montana native, is pursuing her passion of becoming a professional photojournalist after graduating from the University of Montana. Ashley has documented minority issues ranging from Indian Americans on the reservations in Montana to the Roma in the Czech Republic.

Brian Kimball:

Brian Kimball is a journalism senior at the University of Arizona and is a sports writer for the Arizona Daily Wildcat. This will be his second internship at The Oklahoman, both of which he worked on the Local Desk.

LeighAnne Manwarren:

LeighAnne Manwarren is a journalism junior at the University of Oklahoma, and besides working for The Oklahoman on the Watchdog Desk this summer, she will be The Oklahoma Daily’s senior online editor in the fall. After graduation, Manwarren plans on working as a political journalist for a big metropolitan newspaper, working her way up to a job at news organization in Washington, D.C.

Sean Ely:

Sean Ely is a May graduate from Michigan State University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in journalism. He has worked for The State News, The Mackinac Island Town Crier (Mich.) and the Lansing State Journal before joining The Oklahoman. He’s covered both hard news and sports — his two passions. He’ll be working on the Local Desk.

David Ubben:

David Ubben is a recent graduate of the University of Missouri pursuing a goal of working as a long-form, enterprise sports writer. For the past year, he’s covered the Missouri football beat for the Columbia Missourian. He’ll be working on the Sports Desk.

Nathan Poppe:

Nathan Poppe is the features editor at OSU’s student newspaper, the Daily O’Collegian. He is also a news-editorial junior at OSU. If he’s not thinking about going noodling, then he’s thinking about the Flaming Lips. He’ll be working on the Features Desk.

Dusty Somers:

Dusty, from Seattle, is a journalism junior at the University of Oklahoma, who will be working on the Business Desk this summer. He enjoys film, cooking and spending time with his wife.

Ted Bado:

Ted Bado is a junior at Oklahoma State University, majoring in News/Editorial Journalism and Sports Media. He is from Edmond and he’ll be working on The Oklahoman and NewsOK.com’s Know Its.

Jack Burk:

Jack Burk is a double major in Broadcast Journalism Production and Sports Broadcasting at Oklahoma State University. He attended Cherry Creek High School in Denver, CO, and he’ll be working in the video department.

April Choi:

April Choi is a senior at the University of Missouri, majoring in journalism and women’s and gender studies. Originally from Ohio, she grew up in Michigan and Seoul. She will be The Oklahoman’s custom publishing intern this summer.

James Corley:

James Corley is a news-editorial print journalism major at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He is an Oklahoma City native and he’ll be working on the Sports Desk this summer.

Emily Holman:

Emily Holman attends Oklahoma State University and plans to graduate in 2009 with a bachelor’s in news-editorial journalism and a minor in English. She hopes to report on education or do in-depth reporting after graduation. She will be doing Stories of the Ages this summer.

Daniel Puma:

Daniel Puma is an aspiring food writer who will be working with Food Editor Dave Cathey this summer. Food is infinite, and he looks to explore beyond the known culinary world. He is a University of Oklahoma student.

Ryan Stewart:

Ryan Stewart was born in Oklahoma City in 1985. He went to Oklahoma Christian High School and played basketball with Blake and Taylor Griffin. He decided he wanted to be a writer when he read The Great Gatsby in seventh grade. He’ll be working on the Sports Desk this summer.

Brian Trumbly:

Brian Trumbly is owner of Trumbly Media and Productions and attends Oklahoma Christian University, majoring in Corporate Media. Married last summer to the beautiful Mrs. Trumbly, he was born in Oklahoma, raised in Edmond and went to high school at Northwest Classen. He’ll be working in the video department of NewsOK.com.

Peter Wright:

Peter Wright was born and raised in Oklahoma City where he worked on his high school newspaper at Harding Charter Prep for three years. He now splits his time between Oklahoma City and St. Paul, Minnesota where he attends Macalester College and serves as a managing editor for the student-run weekly there. He’ll be working on the Breaking News Desk this summer.
