Meet the Interns
Tiffany Brown is a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma studying International Relations. Brown has worked in the nation’s capital covering immigration, poverty and politics for TeleSUR Media, an international media company, and has written for Routes Webzine at the University of Oklahoma and The Vista at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is pursuing a career as a Foreign Correspondent.
David Downham is a visual journalist who just graduated from Ball State University. He was a design intern last summer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and has been chief designer and design editor for Ball State Daily News. He enjoys mashup music, following lots of different pro sports, riding my fixed-gear bike everywhere and spending as much possible time with his “wonderful girlfriend of five years,” Jordan.
Garett Fisbeck is an undergraduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma, studying photographic arts and journalism. He currently works as photo editor for The Vista and has done freelance work for the Edmond Sun.
Tiffany Gibson is a recent graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She had interned at The Las Vegas Sun, freelanced at WPLN Nashville Public Radio, been an editor-in-chief and multimedia editor at MTSU’s Sidelines, worked as a disc jockey at MSTU’s 88.3, and directed and produced a documentary. She also has been a Poynter Institute for Media Studies fellow and won a second and third in the 2009 SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards.
Brandon Goodwin is a journalism and political science junior at the University of Kentucky. He has interned with MSNBC.com in Seattle as a multimedia journalist, and was the photo editor, multimedia director and web editor for his daily student paper, the Kentucky Kernel.
Zach Gray is a graduating senior from Oklahoma State who is excited to visually tell the stories of Oklahomans this summer in the state’s capital. Zach likes to be outdoors, but never without his iPhone, as he is a Twitter addict by the handle of @zachtgray. He previously interned at the Tulsa World and the Edmond Sun. He also has been the photo editor and senior photographer at The Daily O’Collegian.
Adam Kemp is a sports media major at Oklahoma State who has a deep love of all things Oklahoma and Andrew W.K. Adam has covered everything from the Cowboy football team playing in Jerry World to rabid Glenn Beck fans at the Ford Center. He has interned or been a correspondent at the Oklahoma Gazette and Fox 23 in Tulsa. He also has been The Daily O’Collegian sports editor.
Emily Hopkins is majoring in Broadcasting & Electronic Media with a minor in Marketing at the University of Oklahoma. She previously has interned for The Oklahoma Gazette and been a Life & Arts and news reporter for The Oklahoma Daily at OU. She also won the “Outstanding Young Journalist” for The Oklahoman’s Newsroom 101 program. Upon graduation, she plans to write for a fashion or music magazine or to be involved in the entertainment industry in some capacity.
Tariq Lee is returning for a second internship at The Oklahoman as part of the Sports Journalism Institute. He is a track & field athlete at Temple University, majoring in News-Editorial and Broadcast Journalism. He plans to write for a major newspaper or online outlet upon graduation.
Whitney Ortega is a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma. She previously interned at CNN, KTXS News in Abilene, Texas, and the Abilene Reporter. She also has been a staff writer for The Oklahoma Daily. This West Texan hopes to draw attention to important topics through feature stories this summer and throughout her career.
Kory Oswald is a recent graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma. He has been editor-in-chief and managing editor of The Vista and interned for The El Reno Tribune. He also has been a multimedia assistant at a recording studio in San Francisco.
Annelise Russell is a journalism and political science senior at the University of Oklahoma. She has also held internships with OklahomaWatch and National Journal (Washington) and spent last summer as a Dow Jones News Fund sports copy editing intern at the San Francisco Chronicle.
AJ Sinker is a Film Studies major with minors in Chinese and Advertising at the University of Tulsa. He is originally from Minneapolis, Minn., and plans to pursue a career in television or film after graduation. He served as video editor for ResLife TV, worked at TUTV and four years of filmography experience.
Anthony Slater will be the sports editor The Daily O’Collegian at Oklahoma State University in the fall. He has been the assistant sports editor the O’Collegian and a sports reporter at the Sonoma State STAR in California.
Mark Smith is in his last semester at Oklahoma City Community College and will graduate with an Associates of Arts in Journalism with honors in July. He won the 2010 SPJ National Mark of Excellence award in online news reporting and has a first and two seconds in the Region 8 Mark of Excellence awards. After transferring to and graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma, he plans to work for The Oklahoman as a Watchdog reporter.
Krystal Wagner is a Michigan State University journalism student who has worked as a multimedia, news and features editor and reporter for The State News in East Lansing, Mich. She describes herself as “a down to Earth, adventure-seeking girl from the shores of West Michigan. I’ve yet to settle on what kind of journalism interests me the most, but until that time, a fresh pot of coffee, music in the background and a story to tell are what feed my soul.”
Ashley West is a University of Oklahoma senior who has been the photo editor at the Oklahoma Daily, an Oklahoma City Thunder photographer as well as recently starting her own photography business.
