Jennifer Adams
Jennifer is a senior journalism graphics and photojournalism major at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and plans to graduate December 2008. This summer she is interning in the art focused portion of the News and Information Center as a Graphic Designer. Last summer, she interned as a page designer for the South Bend Tribune in South Bend, Ind. That same year in the Spring Semester, she interned as a page designer at The Herald Bulletin in Anderson, Ind. While at Ball State, she worked with the expo Magazine, Ball Bearings Online and The Ball State Daily News. After her internship, she plans to return to Ball State and work for Ball Bearings as a designer/developer for the Web site. After graduation she would like to work for a newspaper as a Graphic Designer or a Multimedia Designer.
Monica Albert
Monica Albert is a journalism senior at the University of Oklahoma. She graduated from Elk City High School in 2005. Monica has been a reporter and copy editor for The Oklahoma Daily, as well as a State Capitol reporter for The Edmond Sun. She is a Gaylord Ambassador of Journalism and a member of the Society of Professional journalists. Monica is currently interning for the Metro Desk of The Oklahoman.
Dontay Allen
Allen is an intern for the sports department this summer. He is from Oklahoma City and currently is a junior at Oklahoma State University. His major at OSU is Sports Media. He hopes to be a sports writer for The Oklahoman in the future.
Dane Beavers
Beavers is a senior at the University of Oklahoma studying journalism and film and video studies. Originally from a small town outside Dallas, TX, he’s been a reporter and online editor at OU’s student newspaper The Oklahoma Daily, and will be working as a Digital News intern for the summer of 2008.
Hailey Branson
Branson is a junior at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in journalism. She grew up in Perry, where she worked for the Perry Daily Journal for three years. She has also worked at the Tri-County Record and the Vinita Daily Journal. Hailey has worked four semesters at OU’s student newspaper, the Oklahoma Daily, where she will be opinion editor in the fall. She is also an Oklahoma stringer for the New York Times.
Leslie Cermak
She is a graduate student studying journalism at the University of Oklahoma. She hopes to graduate this December, provided she can complete her master’s thesis and defense this year. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Oklahoma City University and worked at OU’s Center for English as a Second Language for almost five years. She loved her job there, but wanted to do something more with her writing and editing skills. She hopes to learn a lot while interning at the copy desk with The Oklahoman this summer, and hopefully, she will leave this internship as a more confident headline writer!
Nathan Curby
Curby, a native of Fairview, OK, is a senior journalism major at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, VA. Nathan has been the editor of his campus newspaper and worked as a reporter at the Fairview Republican. His interests range from sports to music and acting. He is working this summer as a project reporter for The Oklahoman’s data team.
Kristen M. Daum
Daum is a senior at Michigan State University, where she is pursuing a dual-degree in journalism and political science pre-law. Before coming to The Oklahoman this summer, Daum interned at Newsday’s Washington D.C. bureau in spring 2008 (as part of a fellowship program through the Washington Center for Politics & Journalism), studied abroad in Rome, Italy in fall 2007, and interned at her hometown newspaper, The (Fargo, N.D.) Forum, in summer 2007. Daum will be working on The Oklahoman’s city desk this summer.
Chase Estes
Estes is the product of the Oklahoma Christian University’s communication department. He was a major player in the production of content for the school’s TV station. His video history started when he was a young teenager set out to make a cheesy horror film during summer-camp. Excessive experience in music videos, short films, news production, and live sports coverage has refined his abilities with video production.
Richard Hall
Hall is a journalism senior at the University of Oklahoma. He currently is a summer intern at The Oklahoman as an online editor. He currently lives in Norman, Okla.
Adrielle Harvey
Her travels this summer are not too far from her place of higher education - McPherson College, in McPherson, Kansas. However, it does take her out of state into OKC, where she has a whole new world to explore. Her studies at McPherson include her major interests - communications and journalism, and herminor interest in business administration. Her passion truly lies in the field of journalism. It stems from her curiosity of the unknown and learning about people unlike her. As she enters her senior year at McPherson, she will serve as the editor-in-chief of the college’s newspaper, the Spectator, for the third year. Last summer, she had the opportunity to intern at the Topeka Capital-Journal, a truly wonderful experience. And this year, she has a whole summer ahead of her filled with the excitement of writing for the business department at The Oklahoman and gaining knowledge about the multimedia side of things.
Lisa Janssen
Janssen is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in Spanish. She is currently an intern in the Video department and is also interning at the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation this summer. Lisa has a variety of experience in multimedia, and she has previously worked for the Oklahoma Gazette, KGOU Radio, The Public Information Office of Oklahoma City/City Channel 20 and The Oklahoma Daily. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys reading, pilates and spending time with her friends, family and her 2-year-old pug, Pearl.
Mike Jeffries
Jeffries comes to the Oklahoma City area from Kansas City, Mo., where he attends the University of Central Missouri. There, he is a senior journalism major and plans to become a sportswriter for a metro daily. His previous experience includes covering high schools and college sports for The Kansas City Star and an internship with The Sedalia Democrat. He is also the Managing Editor of UCM’s campus paper, The Muleskinner. Jeffries is excited to be working with OPUBCO Communications group and is excited to get married next fall to his long-time girlfriend, Amanda. For The Oklahoman, Jeffries will work in the sports department covering whatever they throw his way.
Brian Kimball
Kimball is a journalism senior at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. He has been on staff at the school paper, The Arizona Daily Wildcat, for three semesters and served as the assistant sports editor in the spring of 2008. In the fall of 2008 Brian will be covering the Arizona football team. This summer he will be interning for the city desk of The Oklahoman, his first internship.
Amy Rymer
Rymeris the photo intern. She’s finishing graduate school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and this is her first time in OKC. She’s hoping to do some fun videos this summer and improve her still photography. She’s not a photo-maniac (yet), so in her free time she loves to dance salsa and is doing research for her final project in grad school. She’s going to use still photos and video to document the lives of a few Salvadorans who are sending money from the US to their families in El Salvador. She will spend August in Washington, D.C., and spend two months in El Salvador. her approach to photojournalism is to build tolerance in the communities where she works.
Jason Singer
Singer is splitting his summer internship at The Oklahoman between the sports and metro departments, with a little work in the entertainment department as well. He’s from New Hampshire and recently graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and before arriving at The Oklahoman, was editor in chief of two prep sports newspapers in the Metro Atlanta area, Score Gwinnett and Score DeKalb. He also served as an editor at the parent publication, Score Atlanta, and worked as the beat writer for the city’s professional hockey team, the Atlanta Thrashers. When not at work, he’s probably on the golf course or watching a Boston sporting event. He punches the New England ticket: a Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, Bruins and Boston College fanatic, and also a self-proclaimed dork. In his free time, he loves designing and completing crossword puzzles, writing movies and short stories, playing Scrabble and dabbling in theoretical physics. He is also currently working on his first novel, which will hopefully be completed by the end of the year.
Chelsea Smith
Smith will be a junior at the University of Oklahoma in the fall. She is majoring in Public Relations and is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She is originally from Oklahoma City and attended high school at Bishop McGuinness. She has two brothers, Keinan (16) and Andrew (4) and her parents are Patrick and Natalie. She is very close her my family, which is why she opted to stay so close to home. She is very interested in health and fitness and considers herself to be an avid runner. She hopes to run her first marathon in the fall or early spring.
Sarah D. Wire
Wire is a senior journalism major at the University of Missouri. She enjoys writing political news but is taking a summer off to explore features writing. When Sarah returns to Missouri in the fall she will be a fellow at the capitol bureau of KMOX radio -St. Louis.
