Conan O’Brien gets a running start on “Tonight Show”

Conan O’Brien began his hosting duties on the “Tonight Show” last night, and he got things with his usual goofy style and swagger. His short, opening monologue included a jab at his move from New York City to LA.

I think I’ve timed this move perfectly. I’m on a last-place network, I moved to a state that’s bankrupt and ‘The Tonight Show’ is sponsored by General Motors.”

Conan welcomed Will Ferrel (“Land of the Lost” comes out June 5) as his first guest. Ferrel made light of Conan’s new job.

It’s so incredible because nobody thought you could do it.”

Tonight, Tom Hanks and Green Day will visit with Conan.

I’m excited to see where Conan takes The Tonight Show. I think it was time for change in the late night line-up and he will do well in Jay’s spot.

Just keep Fallon away from the cameras and I am happy…
