Koby, the numbers in the blog match the numbers that were entered into our database (http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/footballstats/TeamStatsTmp.pl?SchoolID=60). I’m not sure who handles that stuff for the football program there, but the stats entered into our system were what we had to go off of.

If it wasn’t for his COACHES, this kid would have made All-State and probably have gotten a better offer. Heard he had an offer from Tulsa, but didn’t sign because he was waiting for better offer. When that didn’t happen, heard that TU said, “Thanks, but no thanks. We got another commit!”
His coaches needed to be disciplined for NOT nominating this kid for All-State. He was a dominate force for Luther.

Judge,
Not sure what your point is overall or what it has to do with Onuoha. He’ll decide between OU and Missouri and, chances are, if he goes to OU, at least during his time there, he’ll be written about more in The Oklahoman than if he goes to Missouri. That’s because we cover OU regularly and obviously don’t cover Missouri. It was the same thing with Gerald Jones, one of those Millwood kids (although again, not sure what you’re talking about on them writing articles on themselves). I certainly wouldn’t say Jones “disappeared into a black hole” though. He had a successful career at Tennessee and had a shot with the Eagles in training camp this year.

As for Barry J. Sanders (I assume that’s who you’re talking about when you refer to “BSjr”), he made his pick like a lot of recruits do. It wasn’t anything extra flashy and I can’t remember Sanders ever doing anything that was “all about me.”

Also, I’d say calling Stanford his “own kind” would be a pretty good compliment for most any player or student in general.

Besides being the greatest athlete in Millwood/Oklahoma history, your father was also truly a caring and loving young man who attempted to please everyone. Sometimes in life choices are made that can never be taken back. I remember Mandrell Dean playing football for Millwood. Mandrell was one of the most talented, and maybe the best talents to come out of Oklahoma/ OKC period. Really was ahead of his time and so blessed with god gifted talent. I was also fortune to watched Quintaz play little league and high school football. If there is a kid who deserves a chance is Quintaz Struble. So glad, you’re doing a story on this young man.

good list, I too would have liked to see Killman from stroud on here as well as Dalton Cummings from Wyandotte, he made every other type of list as an honorable mention and the OCA 2a team, surely a spot could have been found on this team.
you picked a good list, there is only 2 I would have not picked, one of the d-line and one of the special team guys I would have had different, but all in all a good list

If you comment on these players, you should have seen them play! Before you critisize these picks, I saw Rylan Russell play and know that he is very deserving of this honor! Athletes should not be over looked because of their teams record, nor should they be overlooked because of the town they live in! I put more stock in these picks than those of the OCA, atleast these picks are not made on the buddy system, where the athlete is from, who his coach is, or what the teams record was. Again, the bulk of these lists were based on the nominations received for the all-state team. Every coach was sent nomination forms. Without getting into specifics, some of those listed did not submit nominations. While players didn’t have to be nominated to be considered, a nomination along with submitted stats certainly goes a long way toward being included.

Should’ve posted the team scores with this. Broken Arrow won with 143.5 point. Tulsa Union finished second with 138 and Tuttle finished third with 114.5. Altus was fourth with 83.5.

Your an idiot if you think Barry Sanders Jr. is the best RB in the state! You must not know or follow High School football in this state he was maybe the 4th or 5th best behind Flanders, Wilson, Curtis,Roberts and Ross. He is highly overrated.

There is NO WAY he is transferring out of state next year! I’m sure a lot of folks in 4A would like him to, but he’s staying put. There’s no reason to leave – all of the big players on the D1 level are already in on him at Douglass, and he’s played with Athlete’s first for years… so he doesn’t gain anything by leaving.

Guru, I was a little surprised to see PCN get beat by Lawton yesterday. I think they’re a better team than the Wolverines. They have good leadership and some pretty good athletes. They’re at their best when they’re not having to rely too much on jumpers — unless the jumpers are falling.

I still think Rick Harris will have them ready to make a run at state when March gets here. It will be tough. There are a lot of good teams in 6A. But I think you’ll see them at least playing in the game to go to state if nothing else

I’ve certainly been keeping a close eye on the Titans. They’re not No. 2 in the 5A coaches’ poll for nothing. Coach Price has a strong squad this year. I’ll be heading out there to cover some of their tournament later this month as well.

Bob, there’s certainly room for disagreement on the RB selections. That position was the toughest I can remember in my time being a part of the selection process. That said, trashing Flanders and calling Roberts “some scrub from Norman” makes it hard to take the rest of your comment seriously. Flanders ran for more than 1,000 yards more than Sanders and did it in 6A. Roberts ran for 250 more yards than Sanders (although with admittedly many more carries). Sanders is a fine football player who I think will be great in college but it was pretty clear this year that he wasn’t a first-team running back.
