Midwest City-Del City games moved to Saturday

The top-10 boys and girls basketball games between Del City and Midwest City will be played Saturday afternoon instead of Tuesday, as they were originally scheduled.
The girls will play at 1 p.m., and the boys will follow at Del City High School.
The last time these schools met in mid-January, the games were also moved to Saturday afternoon.
Del City girls coach Karri Sears said the rescheduling was made by district administrators and that it is a “safety issue.”
The rescheduling will mean a quick turnaround for both schools, which each have games Friday night.
Del City’s boys and girls host Moore on Friday, and Midwest City travels to Westmoore.
Despite the inconvenience of playing back-to-back games, coaches agree that it is good preparation for the playoffs.
“It’s one of those things where Del City is in the same situation,” said Midwest City girls coach Art Bode.
“And when it comes to the state tournament, you need to be ready for a quick turnaround.”
Sears said: “It’s gonna be tough on our kids, but it’ll prepare us for the playoffs.”
Midwest City’s girls (21-0) are ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, and have beaten Del City (14-7), No. 6 in 5A, both times they’ve played this season.
On the boys’ side, Del City (16-5) is ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, and Midwest City (16-5) is No. 6 in 6A. The Bombers won the season’s first meeting at the Del City/Midwest City Holiday Invitational, and Del City won in the regular season at Midwest City.
When the Eagles won on Jan. 14, it was the first time they’d beaten Midwest City in more than a decade.
Sheldon Wilson headlines impressive Northeastern Oklahoma A&M class

Anadarko running back Sheldon Wilson isn’t used to competing for playing time.
After signing Wednesday with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, he’ll have to put in extra work as he fights for carries with other top backs the Norsemen signed.
“I’m gonna love that,” Wilson said. “I’ve never really had to compete for carries, so getting pushed and competing every day will make me better.”
Putnam City running back Casey Curtis, who rushed for 1,805 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior, signed with NEO on Wednesday, as did Edmond North’s Jared Benway and Broken Bow’s Eric Dockins.
Wilson rushed for 3,335 yards and set state records with 57 rushing and 64 total touchdowns as a senior on Anadarko’s first state championship football team.
After the season, he was named The Oklahoman’s 2011 All-State Offensive Player of the Year.
Dale Patterson first recruiting class in his second stint as NEO’s coach was impressive beyond running backs.
NEO signed three top Oklahoma high school quarterbacks in McAlester’s Tony Kiefer, Owasso’s Kason Key and Mustang’s Brandon Taylor.
Four Edmond North seniors — Benway, tight end Troy Davis and offensive linemen Trevor Barron and Will Wiedenmann — also signed with NEO.
Other city-area prospects who signed with the Norsemen include Midwest City defensive back Ronnie Davis, Oklahoma Christian School kicker Keegan Carter and Kingfisher offensive lineman Hunter Endres.
The amount of talent NEO signed has Wilson thinking title.
“Looking at these guys, we might be able to win a little championship up there,” Wilson said.
Wilson will be joined at NEO by two of his Anadarko teammates, offensive lineman Randy Martinez and linebacker Wes Satoe.
“That’s really cool to go up there with teammates I know,” Wilson said. “I don’t have to go up there and feel like I don’t know anybody.”

Midwest City’s Reeves heading to South Dakota
Midwest City cornerback Ricky Reeves has committed to South Dakota, Bombers coach Steve Huff said. Another Bombers defensive standout could be heading there as well.
Reeves took a visit to the school last weekend and made the decision to commit after the trip.
An Oklahoman All-State defensive back, Reeves (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) had 61 tackles and six interceptions as a senior and scored three rushing and a receiving touchdown on offense.
Linebacker Zeke Lewis is making a trip to the school this weekend. Lewis, also an all-stater, had a 6A-best 169 tackles and added six sacks and an interception.
Reeves joins James Flanders (Tulsa), Dakota Moran (Northeastern State), Devin Crisp (NSU) and C.J. Smith (Emporia State) as Midwest City players committed to play in college. Several others could decide between now and signing day, Feb. 1.
Midwest City’s Moran commits to NSU
Midwest City offensive lineman Dakota Moran committed to Northeastern State University this weekend.
Moran was the anchor of the Bombers offensive line that helped Midwest City rush for nearly 3,500 yards this season. Midwest City was 11-1.
NSU was 7-5 last season, its last in the Lone Star Conference. NSU joins the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association next year.
McDonald’s All-American nominees announced
The nominees for the 2012 McDonald’s All-American game were announced Wednesday.
The 24 boys and girls selected to participate in the All-American Game will be announced at 4 p.m. Feb. 9 on ESPNU. This year’s games will be held March 28 in Chicago, with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 8:30.
Only Texas and Iowa had more nominations on the girls side than Oklahoma’s 26.

Tulsa Union won the title even with a loss to Owasso. Broken Arrow’s only two losses were to Tulsa Union while Jenks’ losses were to Broken Arrow and Union (twice). Owasso had the most impressive wins of the year (Tulsa Union and in quadruple overtime vs. Midwest City) but lost to Broken Arrow (twice), Jenks and Stillwater. Midwest City’s only loss came to Owasso in the second round. The Bombers beat Edmond Santa Fe, whose only other loss was to Jenks in the playoffs.
Former MWC standout Flanders earns another honor

Former Midwest City star Timothy Flanders, a running back at Sam Houston State, was named to the American Football Coaches Association’s Football Championship Subdivision’s All-America team, announced Wednesday.
Flanders was one of just two sophomores named to the team. Indiana State running back Shakir Bell is the other.
Flanders, who was also named the Southland Conference’s player of the year, has 1,235 yards and 21 touchdowns rushing this season. He also has 404 yards and a pair of touchdowns receiving.
Sam Houston State, the top-ranked team in FCS, hosts Montana State at 11 a.m. Saturday in a quarterfinals matchup.
