It is an exciting time for Macomb football.

The small town in Pottawatomie County on State Highway 59B is entering its fourth season with a football program, and now finally has a home field to call its own.

The Hornets played their first three seasons in Tecumseh, but will open the 2011 season at home against Carney.

“It’s gonna be awesome,” senior fullback and linebacker Garrick Bone said. “We saw it the other day, and it looks great. Just the thought of playing on it is awesome.”

Bone is the Hornets’ lone returning starter, but coach Tommy Price, who is in his second year at the helm, said the goal for this year is a .500 season and a playoff berth.

Price said the Hornets return lots of talented players, and had two move-ins that will make a difference.

The field still lacks goalposts, but Price said they will definitely be installed in time for Week 1.

Price said: “When I drive up on (the field), it just makes the hairs on my arms stand up. It’s really pretty, got a beautiful background. It’s just something we’re really proud of.”
