There’s certainly an argument to be made at quarterback but to call those two games “stats padding” is laughable. Thompson had two more games in the semifinals and finals and put his team there with his play on the field. Also, you might be right on the talent he played against but that also holds true on the talent he played with, which makes it a wash.

I echo PP that Hansen was the best QB in the state and should have been put at 1st QB and not punter. Thompson got 2 more games of stats padding and lest we forget Carl Albert is 5A and didn’t even come close to the talent Hansen played against.
@Expert, could you remind me the score of the Jenks-Union game bud?

So you sacrifice another player who’s worked hard at his position to put the QB in so he can get All-State when he’s already getting D1 offers? Maybe the only way the “real” punter could go to ANY college was to get noticed as a punter. Way to sell out the other players on the team. Glad he made All-State but it wasn’t “EARNED” as a punter. He should man up and realize it’s a PAPER AWARD not an earned or deserved award.

So he is made an all state punter, when he is not this best punter in the state. CA and Steven Thompson would not have probably even made to the playoffs in 6A. Hanson was the best QB.

We’ve often used the punting position to get a deserving player on the first team. The first-team quarterback this year was Carl Albert’s Steven Thompson, who threw for 1,395 yards and 7 touchdowns and ran for 1,926 yards and 36 touchdowns. The Titans also won a state title, largely on the back of Thompson.

We try to get the best players on these teams and sometimes that forces us to shift a player to a secondary position.

Yet the Daily Oklahoman can only add him to the All State team as a Punter?? Really?? How does that happen?
