Yukon went to the playoffs in 95 also. got beat by Westmoore in the first round.

Yukon was not in the playoffs in 1995. Westmoore got beat by Midwest City in the first round that year. In 1996, Yukon beat Westmoore in the first round.

I don’t think it’s a given that the east-siders will walk to the semifinals. But it’s going to take a west team playing on top of its game. Santa Fe’s offense vs. Union’s defense would be quite a show if we get that game. Norman North seems to be pretty hot right now, and could surprise some folks, because they have a lot of talent. Norman’s old-school defense/run game philosophy always gives you a chance in the playoffs. And a couple more teams, if they peak at the right time, could pull it off. But it won’t be easy.

Yes Santa Fe appears to be peaking at the right time…In your assessment do any of the west side schools have a legitimate shot of beating any of the east schools in Round 2? It looks like round 2 would be Santa Fe vs. Union at Edmond…What a game!!!

Tough call on the Week 10 game with PCN. I think Yukon will be riding high, now that they’ve hit the easier portion of their schedule, and they can attack the PCN secondary that has been spotty at times this season. A.J. West gives them a legit 6A-type RB that they haven’t really had for a few years, a guy with strength and speed. Right now, I like the Millers in a close one there, but that could change.

As for the playoffs, I wouldn’t want anything to do with Santa Fe right now. I think their offense is clicking better than it has in a while. Yukon probably matches up better with Norman. They obviously hung with them pretty well the first time around, and I think the Yukon offense is playing better now than it was in the first three weeks of the season. Of course, I think Norman’s defense is probably better, too, but it would be the better matchup for Yukon.

Well said Scott…With that insight what are your thoughts about Yukon-PC North Week 10? Since Yukon will be 3rd or 4th in their district do you think they can win a rematch with either Santa Fe or Norman?

Guru, Wilson’s desire to build Yukon into a perennial playoff team began long before anyone put up a dime for the new campus. It began when he took over a program that hadn’t been to the playoffs in a decade and was rarely winning more than two games a year. For the better part of the 2000s, Yukon was one of the worst 6A programs in the metro area. And just so we’re not misleading anyone, $17 million is what Yukon ear-marked for all of its athletic facilities, not just the football stadium.

I would hope with a $17,000,000 facility that being in the playoffs on a regular basis was an expectation!
